Abstract: An approach is provided in which a server receives a first request from a client over a command port connection. The server, in turn, sends a first phase authentication token to the client over the command port and receives a second request from the client over a management port connection. In response, the server sends a second phase authentication token to the client over the management port connection, which the server receives back from the client over the command port connection. In turn, the server authenticates the client to utilize the command port connection accordingly.

Abstract: Replay attacks in an encrypted file system are prevented by generating a session key and providing the session key to one or more drive managers and an encrypted file system process. When a drive request is received by the encrypted file system process the drive request is encrypted using the generated session key. The encrypted drive request is sent to a drive manager. The drive manager attempts to decrypt the drive request using the session key. If the encrypted drive request is successfully decrypted, then the drive manager performs the requested operation. On the other hand, if the request is not decrypted successfully, then the request is not performed by the drive manager. Drive managers can include both disk device drivers and a logical volume managers.

Abstract: An approach is provided to receive a request at a first computer system from a second system. The first system generates an encryption key, modifies retrieved source code by inserting the generated encryption key into the source code, and compiles the modified source code into an executable. A hash value of the executable program is calculated and is stored along with the encryption key in a memory area. The executable and the hash value are sent to the second system over a network. The executable is executed and it generates an encrypted result using the hash value and the embedded encryption key. The encrypted result is sent back to the first system where it is authenticated using the stored encryption key and hash value.

Abstract: A method of rescinding previously transmitted e-mail messages are provided. After a sender composes an e-mail message, the message may be stored on a computing system when it is sent to the recipients. As customary, the e-mail message may contain a list of recipients to whom it is to be sent. A notification message is then generated and sent to the recipients (and to the sender) instead of the actual e-mail message. The notification message allows the recipients to automatically access the stored e-mail message. When and if the sender decides to rescind the message, the user may access the message and modify the list of recipients to exclude any number of recipients as well as to modify the text of the e-mail message. Any recipient whose e-mail address has been excluded will not be allowed to access the e-mail message.

Abstract: A user inputs event information into a data processing system which is stored in an application memory of an application. Message information contained in each incoming message received by a messaging service is compared to the event information. In the event that the message information corresponds to the event information a notification of the event is sent to a short-range wireless transmitter. The wireless transmitter transmits notification of the event to a remote receiver. Upon receipt of the wireless signal, the remote receiver triggers an alert notification notifying the user that data processing system has received the specified event.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer instructions for handling intrusions. A tracer packet is sent back to an intruder causing the intrusion in response to receiving notification of an intrusion from a particular node in a network data processing system. Nodes in the network data processing system are notified of the tracer packet. Identification of the node is stored for use in tracing a route of the tracer packet through the data processing system in response to receiving a message from a node indicating receipt of the tracer packet.

Abstract: A system and method for dynamically adjusting or modifying the password expiration period for a given user based upon how a user accesses the password-protected resource. The tighter the physical control of how a user can access a resource results in a loosening or maintaining of the password expiration period to be a relatively long period of time, whereas the looser the physical control of how a user can access a resource results in a tightening of the password expiration period to be a relatively short period of time. The password expiration period is adjusted based on both actual usage patterns as well as variances in such usage patterns.

Abstract: The present invention provides a computer implemented method, apparatus, and data processing system for associating a private part of a keystore of a user with a user authentication process in an encrypting file system. A secure shell daemon server establishes the user authentication process with a secure shell client such that the user authentication process is associated with a user and the user is authenticated. The secure shell daemon server obtains an acknowledgment from the secure shell client. The secure shell daemon server accesses a user public key of the user from the keystore of the user, responsive to receiving the acknowledgment. The secure shell daemon obtains a public secure shell cookie associated with the user from the keystore of the user. The public secure shell cookie is an access key in encrypted form. The access key is based on the user's public key to form the public secure shell cookie. The secure shell daemon server obtains the access key from the secure shell client.

Abstract: An approach for using a centralized conference call manager is provided for initiating conference calls. Users register with the centralized conference call manager to set up a conference call at a future date and time. When the designated time/date arrive, the centralized conference call manager contacts the various intended attendees using a variety of contact locations (e.g., office telephone, mobile telephone, home telephone, etc.). The system further allows an intended attendee to, when contacted by the centralized conference call manager, provide a different contact number that the conference call manager will use instead. An anticipated attendee can decline the call and provide a verbal reason for not being able to attend. The centralized conference call manager records the reason and, when requested, plays the reason back to the other attendees.

Abstract: A system and method for conditioned distribution of e-mail is provided. Delivery of an e-mail message to selected second recipients (equivalently addressees) may be conditioned on a set of preselected conditions, in particular to a set of conditions associated with the delivery of the e-mail to a set of first recipients. In response to message delivery notifications corresponding to the set of first recipients, a determination is made if the delivery conditions are satisfied, and delivery to the set of second recipients made accordingly. Delivery to a set of third recipients may be likewise conditioned on another set of conditions.

Abstract: A sender selection is detected at a sender computer system within a user interface of at least one suggested folder name for a composed electronic message for a recipient receiving the electronic message to select as a folder name for filing the electronic message. The at least one suggested folder name is attached to the electronic message at the sender computer system for distribution to the recipient. The electronic message is sent with the suggested filing folder name from the sender computer system to a recipient, wherein a recipient receiving the electronic message receives the at least one suggested folder name specified by the sender in the electronic message for selecting a folder for filing the electronic message in a messaging filing directory for the recipient.

Abstract: A receipt receives an electronic message from a sender, wherein said electronic message comprises at least one suggested folder name specified by the sender for the recipient to select as a folder name for filing the electronic message, wherein the at least one suggested folder name is detected by a sender computer system from a selection by the sender within a user interface of the sender computer system of the at least one suggested folder name for the electronic message and inserted into the electronic message. The electronic message is filtered to detect the at least one suggested folder name for filing the electronic message in a messaging filing directory. Responsive to the recipient selecting to file the electronic message, the electronic message is filed in at least one folder with the suggested folder name from among a plurality of folders.

Abstract: At least one filing folder is suggested for filing a particular electronic message. The suggested filing folder is graphically distinguished from the remainder of the folders in the filing system, such that selection of a folder for filing an electronic message is facilitated. A suggested folder name is attached to an electronic message before it is sent. When the electronic message is received and to be filed, the suggested folder is the one bearing the name of the suggested folder name attached to the electronic message.

Abstract: A method is presented for using a hard disk drive which contains a non-volatile random access memory (NVRAM) and a computer-usable disk medium. A usage value is maintained for the number of accesses to the computer-usable disk medium, and the usage value is stored within the NVRAM. In a system that is connected to multiple hard disk drives, the usage values for the hard disk drives can be compared to determine a youngest disk drive or a lowest amount of usage amongst the multiple hard disk drives. When data needs to be mirrored or backed-up to one of the hard disk drives, it can be copied to the youngest or least-used hard disk drive. If an operating system installation needs to be performed, the operating system files can be stored on the youngest or least-used hard disk drive.

Abstract: A mechanism to alert to a user that an address of an e-mail message may be undeliverable is provided. If a “bounced” mail notification is received, an indicator is associated with the address to which the notification pertains. When accessed by the user, in response to the indicator being set, the address is displayed in conjunction with one or more perceptive cues, such as highlighted color etc. If an indication that the delivery problems with respect to the address are resolved, such as receipt of an e-mail from the addressee or a successful delivery notification, the indicator is cleared whereby the alert is terminated.

Abstract: A web browser displays a set of search results from a web search, each search result indicating a link to a web page. Responsive to selection of a first of the set of search results for exclusion from display, a subset of one or more of the set of search results that indicate related links is identified. The related links comprise links have a same domain name as the link of the first search result. The first search result and the subset of the set of search results are excluded. The search results are displayed without the excluded ones of the set of search results.

Abstract: A method of communicating with a remote site on a network by establishing different user personas respectively associated with different remote sites on the network, each user persona containing one or more attributes used in accessing the remote sites, and then accessing a specific one of the remote sites using the attributes in a specific one of the user personas that is associated with the specific remote site. The specific remote site can be associated with the specific user persona by a universal resource locator (URL), e.g., for web sites on the Internet, and the accessing is automatically performed in response to matching of the URL of the specific remote site to the URL associated with the specific user persona. A default persona can be used for any remote site having no specifically associated user persona.
