  • Patent number: 8263674
Abstract: An eco friendly radiation cross-linked composition is described that demonstrates excellent resistance to fire and high temperature along with good mechanical properties. The composition which is based on a blend of EVA with a LLDPE, is free of monomer such as vinyl co-agent for radiation cross-linking. The halogen free flame retardant composition is a mixture of 20 to 90% by weight of magnesium hydroxide (powder A) and 90% to 20% of powder B. Preferably the powder B is a double salt of magnesium carbonate and calcium carbonate and the magnesium hydroxide has a specific surface treatment. In addition, 0.5 to 5 parts of flame retardancy agents are selected from talc, zinc borate or molybdate derivative. The chemicals used here reduce toxicity in the environment and do not release toxic chemicals to air and soil during fire. The flame retardant cross-linked polyolefin composition is particularly useful for insulating wires and cables.

Assignee: King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology “KACST”
Inventors: Ahmed Ali Basfar, Patrick Noireaux, Arnaud Coudreuse, Roxane Noblat

  • Patent number: 5993918
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for manufacturing a thermobonding interlining in which dots of thermofusible polymer of mean thickness E are deposited on the front face of an interlining support, chosen from textile and non-woven supports, and one of the faces of the support is subjected to electron bombardment, wherein, as the dots of thermofusible polymer contain a radical activator and are bereft of photoinhibitor, the depth of penetration of the electrons in the dots of thermofusible polymer is adjusted in order to obtain a modification of the physico-chemical properties of the thermofusible polymer, chosen from the melting temperature and viscosity, over a limited thickness e with respect to the mean thickness E.

  • Patent number: 5532288
Abstract: Process for the preparation of a polysilane crosslinked by ioning radiation and process for the production of a composite material having a polysilane matrix. The preparation process consists of subjecting to ionizing radiation chosen from among X-rays and an electron bombardment, a formulation crosslinkable by ionizing radiation incorporating at least one polysilane having at least one vinyl termination.

  • Patent number: 5196235
Abstract: The matrix is formed by particles of ceramic material which are introduced into the empty spaces of a fibrous structure and are bonded to one another by bridges of ceramic material obtained by in situ pyrolysis of a liquid polymer.By means of this process, a composite material of low porosity, despite a high reduction in volume during pyrolysis, is obtained relatively rapidly.

  • Patent number: 5091485
Abstract: Low viscosity, crosslinkable polysilanes that are liquid at ambient temperatures and essentially free of volatiles, well adapted for conversion into silicon carbide ceramics at elevated temperatures, are prepared by (a) reacting at least one silane monomer of the formula (1):R.sup.1 R.sup.2 SiCl.sub.2 (1)in which R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon radical and R.sup.2 is a vinyl radical, with at least one organic or organosilicon monochlorinated comonomer, in the presence of molten sodium in an organic solvent and wherein the ratio r.sub.1 of the number of moles of the silane monomer of formula (1) to the number of moles of the monochlorinated comonomer ranges from 0.
