Patent number: 8408128Abstract: A method for operating a cleaning apparatus, having a trough and a brush disposed in the trough, in a printing press, includes first, second and third steps. In the first step, a cylinder of the printing press is cleaned by the cleaning apparatus, with the brush bearing against the cylinder. In the second step, the brush is moved away from the cylinder, and a level of a liquid in the trough is changed, resulting in the liquid being brought into contact with the brush. In the third step, the brush is cleaned by the liquid in the trough. A printing press for carrying out the method is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 2009Date of Patent: April 2, 2013Assignee: Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Stephan Balleis, Rainer Hofmann, Patrick Roth, Bernd Sitzmann, Markus Uihlein

Patent number: 8146452Abstract: An apparatus for driving a roller of a printing press includes a main motor configured to drive the roller through a first gear wheel and a first freewheel, and an auxiliary motor configured to drive the roller through a second gear wheel and a second freewheel. A brake that is different from the main motor, for example a band brake, is configured to brake the roller during overrunning of the roller following a machine stop signal. A printing press having the apparatus is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2008Date of Patent: April 3, 2012Assignee: Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Stephan Balleis, Rainer Hofmann, Patrick Roth, Bernd Sitzmann, Markus Uihlein

Patent number: 7990668Abstract: Device protection using temperature compensation. A logic module associated with groups of capacitors adjusts complex impedance planes associated with the capacitor groups to account for ambient temperature variations. In particular, the logic module is configured to adjust a center of a circle of each complex impedance plane based on an average impedance. The average impedance for a selected capacitor group includes impedance measurements for groups other than the selected group, to prevent capacitor failures in that group from skewing the average. The logic module can adjust the circle center in response to changes in average impedance over periods of time. For example, the logic module can filter measured differences in average impedance using a low pass filter, to distinguish slow impedance changes caused by temperature variations and rapid impedance changes caused by capacitor failures. The logic module can adjust the circle center in accordance with the filtered difference value.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2008Date of Patent: August 2, 2011Assignee: Cooper Technologies CompanyInventors: Timothy Robert Day, Daniel Patrick Roth

Patent number: 7823881Abstract: A method of depositing sheets coming out of a sheet-processing machine includes decelerating the sheets and depositing the sheets of a main pile. Certain sheets are decelerated and fed to a second sheet pile. The system includes a device for decelerating the sheets arriving from the sheet-processing machine and for depositing the sheets on a main pile. A chain gripper system is configured to hold and decelerate a trailing edge of the sheets. The chain gripper system includes an adjustable gripper opening cam.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 2007Date of Patent: November 2, 2010Assignee: Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Andreas Böttger, Andreas Detmers, Peter Förch, Edmund Klein, Oliver Lang, Sven Lippardt, Markus Möhringer, Patrick Roth
