Abstract: A system and method provide for the selective authorization and admission of a client into a data sharing session with a host. A host may select one or more clients into the sharing session based on the proximity of the clients. When a client is selected, an identifier is provided from the client device to the host device, for example, utilizing an optical identifier such as a bar code or an audible identifier such as an encoded sound. The identifier is then utilized to establish a link between the client and the host. In this fashion any number of client devices may be selectively admitted into the sharing session in a quick and easy process enabling security for the host and anonymity for the client.

Abstract: Information transfer methods for exchange of information with a wireless access terminal (W-AT) includes receiving a first message from the W-AT, the first message including first information provided by the W-AT and an address of the W-AT capable of identifying the W-AT, converting the first message to an anonymized message by replacing the W-AT address with a transaction identifier (ID), transmitting the anonymized message to a remote server, receiving a first response from the remote server, the first response having response information and the anonymized address information, converting the first response to a second response by replacing the transaction ID with the W-AT address, and transmitting the second response to the W-AT.

Abstract: Mobile terminals in a high data rate CDMA system may be placed in a control hold mode wherein reverse link control channels are gated, or transmitted at a reduced duty cycle. Mode decisions are based on the activity of the mobile terminal in both the forward and reverse links. A forward link inactivity timer is maintained at the base station that schedules forward link communications to a mobile terminal. The reverse link inactivity timer may be maintained at the same base station, at a different base station in the mobile terminal's active set, or at the base station controller. The forward link inactivity timer may follow the mobile terminal's selection of best forward link serving base station in handoff. When both the forward and reverse link inactivity timers have expired, and no forward link data is pending, the mobile terminal may be commanded to a control hold mode.
