  • Patent number: 4025449
Abstract: A method to produce a magnetic barium or strontium ferrite comprising solubilizing an alkaline earth metal compound in an aqueous solution containing about 20 to about 60 weight percent alkali metal hydroxide. The resulting solution is heated to within the range of about 90.degree. to about 130.degree. C and thereafter admixed with a sufficient amount of a soluble iron compound to form a magnetic precipitate. A crystalline, magnetic ferrite is formed by heating the precipitate to within the range of about 800.degree. to about 1500.degree. C.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 21, 1975
Date of Patent: May 24, 1977
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
Inventors: Paul A. Pezzoli, Stanley F. Spangenberg
  • Patent number: T979008
Abstract: a method for treating asbestos to reduce its hemolytic activity is disclosed. The method comprises depositing on at least a portion of the asbestos a sufficient amount of a material consisting essentially of at least one water-insoluble metal orthophosphate to reduce the hemolytic activity of the asbestos. The resulting fibrous asbestos product consists essentially of asbestos fibers having at least one water-insoluble metal orthophosphate deposited thereon. Suitable metals include magnesium, calcium, barium, titanium (III), titanium (IV), chromium, manganese, iron (II), iron (III), cobalt, nickel, zirconium, silver, aluminum, zinc, cadmium, tin (II), tin (IV), and lead.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 4, 1978
Date of Patent: February 6, 1979
