    Abstract: Systems and methods include providing an aircraft with a direct drive dual-concentric valve (D3V) having a body, an outer secondary spool coaxially located within a bore of the body and linearly displaceable relative to the body, an inner primary spool coaxially located within a bore of the secondary spool and linearly displaceable relative to the secondary spool and the body. A plurality of piezo stacks is coupled to a first end of the primary spool, and applying a voltage to at least one of the piezo stacks causes an output stroke of the plurality of the piezo strokes for displacing the primary spool. The secondary spool is displaced together with the primary spool relative to the body if displacement of the primary spool relative to the secondary spool cannot occur.

    Abstract: The stress reducing sleep mask uses a construction of layered lightweight fabrics that, when combined through the manufacturing process, effectively block light, enhance air flow, and improve comfort. The unique combination of materials and molded construction (forming) allows the mask to conform as needed around specific facial anatomical landmarks, reducing gaps that allow light filtration. This device includes a refined headband adjustment, which eliminates the need for uncomfortable buckles, or applications that create other forms of discomfort due to sleeping position or hair entanglements. An integrated acupressure device, which has been shown in clinical studies to induce calm and relaxation, helps users to fall asleep more easily. The pressure of the device can be controlled through adjustment of the headband.

The test subject is fitted with at least one sensor to deliver data to a chassis, which in turn uses a network having at least 10 Gb/s capability to deliver the data to a RAM cache. The RAM cache can push the data to multiple viewers for real time monitoring of wind tunnel tests. The operator can then make live adjustments of the test conditions.

    Abstract: Current state-of-the art ion sources do not meet multiple application needs for pulsed ion beams because current designs limit obtaining the needed peak currents, anode current densities, total currents, time averaged currents and lifetime in the same structure. High surface energy, power loading, material erosion and stresses damage surfaces. Our concepts for a ‘cold’ anode structure and ion source will reduce these erosion and damage issues. By extending lifetime and performance characteristics multiple applications can be enabled with lower maintenance and cost. The concepts here reduce the surface aging and provide the high performance (peak current, high current density and long lifetime required.

    Abstract: An ultrasonic device includes a driving circuit to provide drive power, a first transducer array to generate ultrasonic waves, the first transducer array being connected to receive power from the driving circuit, and a second transducer array to detect reflected or elicited ultrasonic waves incident on the device from a target and generate a signal based on those waves, the second transducer array being acoustically transmissive and disposed over the first transducer array such that the generated ultrasonic waves pass through the second transducer array. The second array is tuned to operate on top of the first. The functions of the two arrays may be reversed and the array tuned to operate with the first array receiving and the second array transmitting.

    Abstract: Asymmetry is provided for the pushing pulse in acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) imaging. MI is based on the negative pressure. By increasing the positive pressure more than the negative pressure, the magnitude of displacement may be increased without exceeding the MI limit. Similarly, negative voltages depole while positive do not, so using an ARFI or pushing pulse with asymmetric positive-to-negative peak pressures or voltages allows for generation of greater magnitude of displacement without harm to the transducer.
