  • Patent number: 11254924
Abstract: A method is disclosed in which filamentous fungi are macerated and encapsulated in an inert matrix to form beads, which can be used to promote reactions carried out by the fungi. The beads are useful, e.g., for producing compounds and compound libraries.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 20, 2009
Date of Patent: February 22, 2022
Assignee: The University of The West Indies
Inventors: Paul B. Reese, Patrice Peart, Avril R. M. Chen-Collins
  • Patent number: 7709534
Abstract: Infections caused by parasitic nematodes of the genera Strongyloides, Ancyclostoma, Necator, Haemonchus, Ascaris, or Trichuris in humans and other mammals are treated by administration to an infected individual of an amount of a C8-C16-alpha,beta-unsaturated aliphatic aldehyde. Such compounds are useful for killing nematode worms of the genera listed above. A particularly useful compound of this class, effective against S. stercoralis infections, is E-2-dodecenal, having structural formula (1).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 28, 2003
Date of Patent: May 4, 2010
Assignee: University of the West Indies
Inventors: Wayne M. Forbes, Ralph D. Robinson, Paul B. Reese

  • Patent number: 4183217
Abstract: A pressure limiting propellant actuating system includes an outer barrel housing having a combustion chamber formed therein. A main piston is movable in the barrel housing when a pressure is developed in the combustion chamber. A relief piston is concentrically mounted and fixedly movable with the main piston when the gas pressure is exerted thereon from the combustion chamber. The relief piston includes a separation mechanism for limiting the output force and simultaneously, maintaining output pressure from the combustion chamber.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 4, 1978
Date of Patent: January 15, 1980
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
Inventors: Paul B. Reese, David W. Murphy
