  • Patent number: 4382646
Abstract: A method of incorporating a getter material within a vacuum vessel by placing the vacuum vessel, along with the getter material, inside a vacuum chamber and evacuating the vacuum chamber and vacuum vessel, then heating the getter material to activate the getter, thereafter allowing the activated getter material to cool, followed by placing the getter material within the vacuum vessel and sealing the vacuum vessel, thereby protecting any temperature-sensitive materials contained within the vacuum vessel from the effects of any high temperatures produced during the activation of the getter material.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 13, 1980
Date of Patent: May 10, 1983
    Assignee: Radcal Corporation
    Inventor: Paul B. Sunde
  • Patent number: 4227085
Abstract: An ionization-type particle detector having an insulating base which mounts an inner electrode provided with a source of ionizing radiation which directs a generally conical beam perpendicularly away from the base; an intermediate cylindrical electrode symmetrically disposed around the inner electrode which has an open upper end through which the radiation beam exists from a compensation zone defined by the inner and intermediate electrodes; and an outer cup-shaped electrode symmetrically disposed about the intermediate electrode and which defines therewith a sensing zone into which radiation enters from the top opening in the intermediate electrode. The sensing zone is divided by the envelope of the radiation beam into an upper bipolar region and a lower unipolar region.

  • Patent number: 4191868
Abstract: A seismic safety cutoff device responsive to external forces such as earthquakes, for use with an electrical switch for controlling the flow of electricity, including a housing adaptable to a switch mechanism having a spring-biased control stem, the safety cutoff device also having a substantially vertically-mounted rod which is pivotable near its upper end to permit movement in any horizontal direction of a weight at its lower end for releasing the spring-biased stem upon it's deflection by an external force. A stem-positioning member is connected to the control stem and extends outward through the housing for easy visual inspection and for ease of re-setting the device after being tripped by an external force.

  • Patent number: 4131124
Abstract: A seismic safety cutoff device responsive to external forces such as earthquakes, for use with a valve for controlling the flow of gases or liquids including a housing adaptable to a valve mechanism having a spring-biased valve stem, the safety cutoff device also having a substantially vertically-mounted rod which is pivotable near its upper end to permit movement in any horizontal direction of a weight suspended at its lower end for releasing the spring-biased valve stem upon its deflection by an external force. A vertical stem-positioning rod is positioned between the valve stem and the pivotable rod for easy visual inspection and for ease of re-setting the device upon actuation.
