  • Publication number: 20150217981
Abstract: A fall arresting/prevention warning device that interfaces with one or more sensors that may be non-invasive and not interfere with normal operation of an aerial lift. The sensors detect movement of an aerial lift work platform and warn the operator when movement of the aerial lift is detected in order to have the operator verify that safety precautions have been taken to safely operate the aerial lift. The warning device may further detect movement of the aerial lift and simultaneously receive signals from one or more detection sensors of safety devices mounted to the vehicle, boom, work platform, or operator to verify safe operation of the aerial lift and provide a warning to the operator only when the proper operational status of a safety device is not detected, reinforcing the necessity to adhere to safety precautions when operating the aerial lift.

  • Patent number: 6330931
Abstract: Disclosed is a machinery operator protection system and method, which inhibits the use of machinery unless the operator of the machinery is properly secured with a lanyard and/or body harness to the machinery. The disclosed system includes a lanyard connection detector for detecting proper attachment of at least one lanyard to a machinery operator and a lanyard interlock control for controlling a switch to selectively enable activation of the machinery when the lanyard connection detector indicates that the operator is properly attached to the machinery with the lanyard. The disclosed method includes the steps of: detecting when at least one safety lanyard is properly attached to a between a machinery operator and a piece of machinery; and inhibiting operation of the machinery unless proper operator safety lanyard attachment is detected.

  • Patent number: 6297744
Abstract: An aerialift warning system and method for use on aerialift equipment to warn the aerialift operator to fasten his/her safety lanyard and to warn persons within the zone of danger below the aerialift boom/basket of the impending danger posed by the descending boom/basket. The system includes a warning module and a speaker. The warning module includes a driver circuit for receiving a boom movement input signal and for asserting an up motion or down motion signal, and a processing circuit for receiving the up motion and down motion signal. The processing circuit contains an execution program to assert one or more warning messages contained in an audio warning circuit. The asserted one or more messages from the audio warning circuit are sent to a speaker.

  • Patent number: 5611410
Abstract: An aerial platform utility enclosure designed to be easily installed upon an unenclosed aerial platform bucket. The enclosure protects the worker from environmental elements without reducing visibility out of the bucket because a polycarbonate plastic such as LEXAN is used to cover the entire enclosure. Upper and lower structural components of the enclosure are constructed out of a non-conductive material. The lower structural component is firmly attached to the bucket while rotation of the upper structure and the protective cover in a full circle allows the worker to have greater access too his surroundings without having to reposition the bucket.
