  • Patent number: 5092144
Abstract: An improved door handle and lock assembly is provided for use with sliding glass patio doors of the type used in residential dwellings and the like. The handle and lock assembly comprises inside and outside escutcheons for mounting onto the vertical stile at one side edge of a sliding door and carrying a respective pair of handles for use in manually sliding the door between open and closed positions. A lock mechanism mounted into the stile is operated by a keyed lock cylinder unit mounted on the outside escutcheon and by a manually pivoted latch lever mounted on the inside escutcheon. The handles and latch lever are adapted for reversible mounting onto their associated escutcheons to permit reconfiguration of the assembly for mounting onto the stile at the left or right side edge of the door.

  • Patent number: 4876866
Abstract: A combination door latch and deadbolt assembly includes an improved latch mechanism and deadbolt mechanism designed for use with doors having a variety of standard size backset and cross bore dimensions. The latch and deadbolt mechanisms are carried by escutcheons havings breakaway tabs at varying diametric positions to fit securely within door cross bores of different standard sizes. The latch mechanism further includes an improved mounting arrangement for left- or right-hand mounting and positive centering of lever-type door handles, together with a simplified cam-actuated latch retractor. The deadbolt mechanism includes an improved bolt linkage which provides a desired bolt throw when a relatively small door backset and/or cross bore size is used. The deadbolt mechanism further includes an improved thumb turn rotatable through ninety degrees between orientations representative of deadbolt position.

  • Patent number: 4807914
Abstract: A window lock assembly is provided for facilitated locking of a pane-carrying frame or sash in a closed position with respect to a window casement. The lock assembly comprises a handle unit in a recessed, substantially flush-mounted position on the casement and including a movable operator handle connected by a concealed rack or the like to at least one locking cam unit mounted on the casement at a remote position relative to the operator handle. The operator handle is accessible for manual movement to displace a locking cam of the cam unit into releasable locking engagement with a keeper mounted on the sash.

  • Patent number: 4754624
Abstract: An improved lock assembly is provided for high security locking of sliding door particularly such as sliding glass patio doors used in residential dwellings and the like. The improved lock assembly comprises a lock mechanism incorporated into the vertical stile at one side of a sliding door, wherein the lock mechanism is adapted for respective keyed and keyless operation from opposite sides of the door for displacing dual latch members toward and away from each other between locked and unlocked positions. In the locked position, the dual latch members engage a latch keeper on the adjacent door jamb for positively locking the door against unauthorized entry. The lock mechanism is conveniently integrated into a compact cartridge for facilitated mounting into a hollow extruded metal stile. In addition, the lock mechanism may include internal tumblers designed to resist keyless unlocking from the outdoor side of the door.

  • Patent number: 4534587
Abstract: An improved latch assembly is provided particularly for use in so-called sunroof windows or the like in an automotive vehicle to movably position a vent panel, such as a pane of glass, to selectively open and close a vent opening. The latch assembly comprises at least one pair of mechanical links pivoted to each other and respectively pivoted to the vent panel and a stationary main frame at one side of the vent opening. The links are designed for articulated movement generally over-center relative to each other between a first position holding a latch in locking engagement with a keeper on the main frame thereby locking the vent panel in a closed position and a second position supporting the vent panel in an open position relative to the vent opening.

  • Patent number: 4480862
Abstract: A latching and locking mechanism for sliding doors such as patio screen doors and the like, wherein a latch hook engaging a keeper may be unlatched by operating either an inside or an outside slide member, and the latch hook may be locked by a locking mechanism operable only from the inside of the sliding door. The latching and locking mechanism is lengthwise functionally symmetric so that it may be utilized either in doors opening from left to right or doors opening from right to left. The locking function is performed by a locking bolt which is cammed into position by an angularly disposed cam slot of a bolt actuator.

  • Patent number: 4154300
Abstract: Extrema in intensive physical properties in a multicomponent fluid system having at least four components, which system exhibits three phases in equilibrium are located by analyzing each of the three phases or an "averaged" representation of the three phases for the concentration of each of the components and thereafter subjecting the resulting analysis to a Gram-Schmidt Orthogonalization to determine the composition of at least one pseudocomponent which is orthogonal to the other components. By this means it is possible to go more quickly in a direction whereby a property in question changes most rapidly. such techniques have wide applicability in optimizing compositions for a desired intensive property such as interfacial tension. This can be useful in designing surfactant systems for oil recovery, for instance.

  • Patent number: 4068874
Abstract: A locking device for use with a combined handle and rotary latch assembly having a latching hook mounted on an axle stud that is journaled for rotation, in a latch assembly, comprising a locking slide disposed alongside the stud and having a keyhole recess receiving an elongated tab on the end of the axle stud, the recess having a narrow channel portion which slides over the tab in close fitting relation to lock the latch, and having an enlarged circular portion in which the tab can rotate without restriction, to unlock the latch. Yieldable detents restrict motion of the slide from locked to unlocked positions. In one embodiment, the slide is a one-piece molding with a shaped locking recess inside an operating knob, and in another embodiment, a separately formed nylon insert is fitted in the body of the slide to form the locking parts.
