Abstract: Photographic base paper (10) has a face side waterproof coating which is a co-extruded layer structure of at least a pigmented core layer (P) and top surface layer (E) of polyethylene. The thickness of layer (E) is no more than 12 .mu.m. The pigment content in the face side coating is at least 2 gm.sup.-2 and it is distributed such that the proportion by weight of pigment in the core layer is at least 1.75 times as great as the proportion by weight of pigment in the top surface layer. For optimum photodefinition (image sharpness) the top surface layer should be free of pigment, but as thin (1.5 to 3 .mu.m) as possible. The pigment is preferably TiO.sub.2.

Abstract: Resin coated photographic base paper having improved stiffness is made by co-extruding a face side resin coating having a first layer of pigmented LDPE and over it a thin layer of a stiff polymer, especially polycarbonate. An intermediate layer of a strongly adhesive polymer may be included to enhance bonding between the first and second layers. The base paper may also have a co-extruded wire side resin coating with a stiff polymer second layer.

Abstract: A release paper for the manufacture of artificial leather, characterized by the release coating of the paper being essentially of a flexible poly(4-methyl pentene-1) resin (TPX) loaded with particulate mineral filler.

Abstract: A pack of paper suitable for use in xerographic, ion deposition of magnetographic printing processes, the pack including a stack of paper sheets having a moisture content of not more than 6% and a reclosable carton made of semi-stiff sheet material and comprising a container portion containing said stack, and a closure portion, said container and closure portions having mutual parallel planar surfaces which slidably interengage upon closure of the carton to restrict air ingress to the carton there-between, and means for limiting the (WVIR) to not more than 30 grammes per square meter of the surface area of the carton in 24 hours at 90% Relative Humidity and a temperature of 32.degree. Celsius.
