    Abstract: At least some embodiments are directed to systems and methods to optimize relative signal delays in vision systems having illumination assemblies separate from a host. In an example embodiment there is a system that includes a host device having, an imaging assembly coupled to the host device and operable to capture image data, and an illumination assembly coupled to the host device and operable to provide illumination. The system is configured such that the host transmits, to the imaging assembly, a series of exposure signals causing the imaging assembly to capture a series of frames and transmits, to the illumination assembly, a series of illumination signals causing the illumination assembly to provide the illumination as a series of strobes. Thereafter the host evaluate each frame to identify a peak-brightness frame and from that, based on a corresponding illumination signal, determines an appropriate relative signal delay for future operations.

    Abstract: An aircraft gas turbine engine includes a heat exchanger module, and a core engine including an intermediate-pressure compressor, a high-pressure compressor, a high pressure turbine, and a low-pressure turbine. The high-pressure compressor is connected to the high-pressure turbine by a first shaft, and the intermediate-pressure compressor is connected to the low-pressure turbine by a second shaft. The heat exchanger module includes a central hub and heat transfer elements extending radially from the central hub and spaced in a circumferential array, for transferring heat energy from a fluid within the heat transfer elements to an inlet airflow passing over the heat transfer elements prior to entry of the airflow into an inlet to the core engine. The gas turbine engine further includes a first electric machine connected to the first shaft and positioned downstream of the heat exchanger module, and a second electric machines connected to the second shaft.

A thermal bridge interconnects the wrapper and the liner to form a vacuum insulated cavity therebetween. The thermal bridge includes an outwardly opening channel and first and second inwardly opening channels. The front edge of wrapper is received in the first inwardly opening channel, and the front edge of the liner is received in the second inwardly opening channel. The second inwardly opening channel is inset relative to the first inwardly opening channel on the thermal bridge. A conduit is disposed within the outwardly opening channel and is configured to circulate a heated medium. The wrapper and liner are contemplated to be comprised of conductive materials, such sheet metal, while the thermal bridge is comprised of a thermally resistant material, such as a polymeric material.

    Abstract: A three-dimensional (3D) metal object manufacturing apparatus is equipped with a borate solution application system to apply a borate solution to a build platform surface prior to manufacture of a metal object. The borate solution is permitted to air dry before the platform is heated to its operational temperature range for formation of a metal object on the platform. The evaporation of the solvent from the borate solution causes the borate salt to form a glassy, brittle anhydrous borate layer on which the metal object is formed. This brittle layer is removed relatively easily with the object after the object is manufactured and the build platform is permitted to cool. The borate layer improves the wetting of the surfaces of build platforms made with non-wetting materials, such as oxidized steel, while also preventing metal-to-metal welds with wetting materials, such as tungsten or nickel.
