  • Patent number: 6033544
Abstract: The present invention provides a liquid distribution system, which is useful in a number of contexts, including in accomplishing various synthetic, diagnostic and drug screening reactions. The distribution system can comprise an alpha reservoir and a beta reservoir, a first set of parallel and adjacent first and second feeder channels and a second set of parallel and adjacent third and fourth feeder channels which are offset from the first and second feeder channels, wherein (a) the first and third feeder channels are connected to the alpha reservoir via a first connector channel that is situated above or below the second and fourth feeder channels and are independent of the beta reservoir and (b) the second and fourth feeder channels are connected to the beta reservoir via a second connector channel that is situated above or below the first and third feeder channels and are independent of the alpha reservoir. The distribution system is preferably a microscale distribution system.

  • Patent number: 4889753
Abstract: Pressure sensitive adhesives can be protected with a releasable liner having a cured fluoroalkyl silicone coating which contains as little as two percent fluoroalkyl-substituted siloxane units. In a preferred embodiment of this invention silicone pressure sensitive adhesives can be solvent-cast, and even cured, directly onto the release surface of the liner and can be removed from the protective liner with a force of not more than 400 grams per inch. The fluoroalkyl silicone copolymers of this invention are prepared by a process which involves the preparation of a cohydrolyzate of fluoroalkyl-containing and fluoroalkyl-free siloxane units, followed by further polymerization of the cohydrolyzate with other siloxane units.

  • Patent number: 4568303
Abstract: A tune playing rotary toy comprises a centrifugally-actuated tune player comprising a casing (10) having a centrifugally-operable switch (30), an music synthesizer (32), and an energy cell (28). Upon rotation of the toy, it will experience centrifugal force, which will close the switch, which will in turn apply electrical energy from the cell to the circuit so that the stored tune will be emitted during rotation. The tune player may be mounted within or upon a toy gyroscopic top, e.g., of the stringless type (FIG. 1), or it may be self-contained with a spinner point and a manual spinning portion (FIG. 2B). The self-contained version may also be covered with sponge rubber (58) and attached to a twirling string (72) for swinging in a wide arc, preferably by means of a handle (78) on the end of the string opposite the tune player.

  • Patent number: 4520160
Abstract: Siloxane-oxyalkylene block copolymer compositions are prepared by a hydrosilylation reaction, using a saturated higher alcohol, such as isostearyl alcohol, as the reaction solvent. The reaction solvent need not be removed from the resulting block copolymer, particularly when the block copolymer is used as an emulsifier in personal care compositions.

  • Patent number: 4428149
Abstract: A toy balloon closure device of tubular configuration having a longitudinal slot therein extending the full length of the same and including an interior divider separating it into a first compartment and a second compartment; said divider having a central hole therein having a diameter greater than the width of said slot, a passage extending from said hole to said slot; said first compartment being adapted to receive the lips under tension of an inflated toy balloon through said slot and said second compartment being adapted to receive the twisted stem of said toy balloon through said slot whereby the tension induced by the normal elasticity of the rubberized balloon material and said tension enhanced by the twisting of the stem of the inflated balloon causing said device to seat firmly against the inflated balloon with sufficient supportive strength to allow the balloon to be held in a horizontal, vertical or angular position.
