  • Patent number: 11794197
Abstract: A low-density suspended solid separation apparatus and method is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a separation tube adapted to receive pre-filtered wastewater and a vortex generator rotated to create a vortex in the separation tube such that the vortex separates low-density suspended solids having a density less than one (1) from the pre-filtered wastewater when the pre-filtered wastewater is passed through the vortex generator. An adjustable tube is inserted from the opposite end of the separation tube into the vortex wherein air inside the adjustable tube is at a pressure less than that of the separation tube causing the low density suspended solids to be removed from the vortex. Remaining water is then discharged from the separation tube.

  • Publication number: 20210261439
Abstract: A wastewater purification system that uses mechanical and chemical processes to separate contaminants from municipal and other sanitary wastewater, concentrates the resulting sludge for disposal, and purifies the resulting product water for reuse as irrigation water, potable water or for disposal. The wastewater purification system can be scaled from a mobile system mounted on a skid or a tracker trailer to a large municipal wastewater treatment system. The wastewater purification system can include a hydrocyclone feeding a flotation tank. Flocculant is added upstream from the hydrocyclone after air injection by a Venturi air injector or similar device. Coagulant is added before the air injection. A dose of flocculant is added after the hydrocyclone within the vortex of the hydrocyclone and before the wastewater exits near the top of the flotation tank.

  • Patent number: 10173910
Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for treating municipal and sanitary wastewater that uses only mechanical devices and processes, which eliminates biological processes and settling tanks. The system includes a three-output Richter-type separator that separates wastewater into three fluid streams according to the specific gravity of the solids within the fluid streams. The lighter-than-water and heavier-than-water solids streams are combined and the resultant sludge is mechanically dewatered without intermediary biological-process systems or sedimentation. The partially-clarified water component can be directly filtered by a membrane filter and optionally optically or chemically disinfected for reuse or disposal. The system advantageously simplifies municipal and sanitary wastewater treatment eliminating traditional primary and secondary treatment stages, and significantly reducing the system's operational footprint. The system and method can be scaled to very large municipal systems.

  • Patent number: 9611162
Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for treating municipal and sanitary wastewater. The system includes a three-output axial-flow type separator that separates wastewater into at least three fluid streams according to the specific gravity of the solids within the fluid streams. The lighter-than-water and heavier-than-water solids streams are combined and the resultant combination capable of being mechanically dewatered without intermediary biological-process systems. The system advantageously simplifies municipal and sanitary wastewater treatment by potentially eliminating traditional primary and secondary treatment stages, and significantly reducing the system's operational footprint. The system and method can be scaled to very large municipal systems.

  • Patent number: 9527014
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for separating solids within a water carrier having different specific gravities. The apparatus includes an axial-flow pump with an impeller (13). The apparatus includes a hollow tube (11) sized and positioned to discharge a fluid stream where the solids within the fluid stream have a specific gravity less than one. The hollow tube (11) includes an inward facing opening that makes an oblique angle along its entire circumference with respect to a longitudinal axis of the hollow tube (11). This arrangement is especially useful in municipal and sanitary wastewater treatment applications for keeping lighter-than-water debris such as hair, food fiber, and synthetic fibrous materials from building up against the leading edge of the hollow tube (11) and clogging it.

  • Patent number: 8985809
Abstract: Disclosed is a lighting fixture that provides approximately even illumination across a planar surface. Also enclosed is an LED light for producing the same. In one embodiment, the light fixture includes a plurality of hollow gradient diffusion globes; each diffusion globe is affixed to a planar reflector that forms an outer illumination surface of the light fixture. Each diffusion globe surrounds a light-emitting portion of an LED or LED cluster. The hollow gradient diffusion globe can include a wall defining by the interior and exterior boundary of the diffusion globe. The wall includes diffusing-particulate homogenously distributed within the wall that in combination with varying thickness of the wall creates continuously varying diffusion. The relative spacing of the diffusion globes on the planar reflective surface in combination with the continuous variable diffusion property of each globe produce approximately even illumination across the outer illumination surface of the LED light fixture.

  • Patent number: 8425782
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for reducing the demand of wastewater volume flowing through a wastewater collection piping system thereby increasing the effective capacity of the system. A portion of the wastewater is diverted from a sewer main. The solids are separated from the liquid; for example, by a centrifugal separator such as a vortex or cyclone separator. The recovered liquid can be treated and made available for reuse or disposed of. The separated or concentrated solids are reintroduced into the sewer main dynamically in a portion that adjusts the wastewater loading, or alternatively, the solids loading, in the sewer main to a predetermined amount or predetermined range. The system can be adapted to reducing demand of wastewater volume flowing within a wastewater treatment plant by diverting the wastewater in the flow path between the wastewater plant inlet and the biological processing stage and reintroducing separated solids downstream.
