  • Patent number: 5762006
Abstract: The present invention relates to a domical structure capable of enclosing the majority of operational and integrating many of the structural elements of a waste-to-energy, waste processing or other combustion facility. The domical structure according to the present invention improves the aesthetic appearance of the facility by enclosing the majority of the machinery, equipment, activities and chimney from outside view. The domical structure also reduces the cost of construction and operation by reducing the support structure and improving lighting and climate control.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 7, 1994
Date of Patent: June 9, 1998
    Assignee: Ogden Projects, Inc.
Inventors: Richard Ubaldi, Paul L. Hauck, Kevin J. Walls
  • Patent number: 5531170
Abstract: The present invention relates to a domical structure capable of enclosing the majority of operational and structural elements of a waste-to-energy or waste processing facility. The domical structure according to the present invention improves the aesthetic appearance of the facility by enclosing the majority of the machinery, equipment and activities from outside view. The domical structure also reduces the cost of construction and operation by reducing the support structure and improving lighting and climate control. Domical structure according to the present invention also includes means for easily transferring waste and materials between different areas or processing portions of a waste-to-energy facility and for reducing downwash airflow characteristics associated with wind patterns in the wake of tall chimneys and rectangular structures.

  • Patent number: 4811783
Abstract: The heat exchanger tube bundle fluid entry area is a region where particular problems can occur because pieces of metallic debris can collect and focus their mass at this low elevation. The metallic debris collected at the bottom of the annular downcomer passage can be swept into the tube bundle, wherein they will impact upon the tube bundle and can cause repture or large amounts of wear to the heat transfer tubes. To prevent this adverse condition, a circumferential row of cylindrical members are positioned peripherally about the entry portion of the tube bundle. These members will have an outside diameter, pitch, and geometric array corresponding to that of the heat tranfer tubes, so as to minimize pressure drop, due to flow across them.
