  • Patent number: 5415563
Abstract: This invention relates to a wire-connecting apparatus which comprises an insulating housing and cover, and at least one terminal mounted in the housing wherein each terminal comprises a strip of electrically conductive sheet material having spaced terminal slit arrangements formed therein. Each slit arrangement defines a plurality of tongues adapted to grip a wire or pin inserted between them. Wire-receiving holes extend through the wall of the housing, and pin-receiving holes extend through the cover with each wire and pin-receiving hole being in register with a terminal slit arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5049088
Abstract: Connectors for field terminating ribbons cables are provided. The connector includes a nonconductive housing having a bottom wall and upstanding side walls extending therefrom to define an open topped termination cavity. A plurality of insulation displacement terminals are frictionally retained in the housing to extend through the bottom wall and into the termination cavity. A flowable sealing grease may be disposed in the termination cavity substantially surrounding the terminals therein. One wall of the housing includes a slot for receiving the ribbon cable in register with the terminals of the connector. A press member is frictionally retained in the housing in a pre-load condition and can be urged into a fully seated locked condition where the press member urges the ribbon cable toward the bottom wall of the housing and into engagement with the terminals therein.

  • Patent number: 4795374
Abstract: A double sided edge connector is provided including a housing formed from a pair of substantially identical hermaphroditic housing halves and aligned pairs of electrical terminals. Each housing half includes a plurality of parallel spaced apart contact guides defining contact receptacles therebetween. Each housing half further includes a longitudinally extending contact retaining wall adjacent the top of the housing half and defining a portion of each contact receptacle. Each terminal includes a central mounting portion, a solder tail at one end and a contact beam at the other end. The contact beam is of a double bent configuration to provide anti-overstress protection to the terminals in use. The terminals are heat staked into the respective receptacles such that the end of the each contact beam is biased against the contact retaining wall. The substantially identical housing halves with the terminals heat staked therein are hermaphroditically mated and are heat staked together.

  • Patent number: 4755146
Abstract: A new and improved heat-dissipating socket connector for connecting individual leads of a leaded module to individual circuits on a printed circuit board comprises a unitary molded dielectric frame including a module-receiving recess. The frame is cantedly mounted on the circuit board with the recess disposed at an angle with respect to the printed board surface. Compliant terminals are mounted in generally open terminal receiving cavities within the frame which are adapted to engage side portions of leads on an inserted module with high contact pressure in an anti-overstress manner. Openings within the frame together with an exposed terminal mounting arrangement, provide ventilation and airflow exposure for portions of the connector and module susceptible to the generation of high temperatures in use. The overall arrangement provides enhanced electrical reliability by reducing the possibilty of heat induced failures.

  • Patent number: 4740180
Abstract: A low insertion force mating electrical contact structure is provided in a male terminal including a final contact portion and a forwardly extending lead-in portion having a gradual twisted cross section relative to the final contact portion. In a preferred embodiment, the male terminal is adapted to mate with a dual contact cantilever spring arm female terminal. Opposed smooth-milled surfaces on the male terminal extending through the lead-in portion to the final contact portion engage the female contact portions and gradually cam the female contacts outwardly to provide reduced insertion forces on the male pin during insertion.
