  • Patent number: 4447854
Abstract: Two wound-metallized-polypropylene capacitor sections of circular-cylindrical dimensions are housed in an oval metal can. One section forms a single capacitor. One metal film electrode of the other section is opened or interrupted in a middle position of the winding, and the uniterrupted other film electrode is terminated at the bottom end of this other section while the two interrupted inner and outer winding films are separately terminated at the top end. The bottom of both sections are connected together and to a feed through terminal in the housing wall. The above said outer film is connected via a conductive strap to the top termination of the one section and a second housing terminal while the inner film is connected only to a third housing terminal. In this way, an optimally dense oval package provides two capacitors at the package terminals that may have a ratio of values ranging from 3 to 12, ideally suited for use in air conditioners.

  • Patent number: 4408818
Abstract: A terminal-cover assembly for a multisection capacitor has three terminal-bushing assemblies mounted in a round metal cover so as to meet the minimum spacing requirements between terminals and between the terminals and the edge of the cover. The terminal-bushing assemblies are mounted in the cover in a triangular array, and the bushings have an irregular pentagonal shape. A four-bladed terminal in the shape of an irregular octagon is provided for the assembly.

  • Patent number: 4398782
Abstract: An interrupter for a multisection AC capacitor is a molded disc of polyphenylene sulfide. The disc has three holes in it in an equilateral triangular array, and one side of the disc is flanged around its periphery. The other side of the disc has three main ribs extending outwardly from the center and dividing the disc into three equal sections, each containing one of the holes. Lateral ribs extend from each side of the main ribs at 60.degree. to the main rib and approximately 25% of the length of the main rib from the center of the disc.

  • Patent number: 4326237
Abstract: A daul AC motor-run capacitor has a pair of oval plastic end caps to hold round would capacitor sections in place in an oval can. Each cap has upstanding pins to engage the ends of each capacitor section and hold it firmly in place. The upper cap has at least one slot therein for the passage of an electrode tab from the wound sections for connection to at least one terminal. The bottoms of the sections are electrically connected and provided with a common electrode tab. When the can and cover are metal, this common tab passes through an insulative sleeve along the length of the sections for connection to its terminal.
