  • Publication number: 20150300194
Abstract: An annulus filler is provided for mounting to a rotor disc of a gas turbine engine and bridging the gap between two adjacent blades attached to the rotor disc. The annulus filler is substantially entirely formed from a polymer matrix composite material. It has an outer lid which defines an airflow surface for air being drawn through the engine in an axial airflow direction, and a support structure which is connectable to the rotor disc to support the lid on the rotor disc. The support structure has two support walls extending from opposing lateral sides of the lid to an attachment strap for receiving a hook on the rotor disc, the attachment strap bridging the support walls. In use, under centrifugal loads, the opposing support walls resiliently deform to allow outward radial movement of the lid. Each support wall is thickened in a region neighbouring the attachment strap.

  • Patent number: 9151035
Abstract: A double axis frame strut has a strut frame and a tongue that extends from a distal end of the strut frame. The tongue can be rigidly coupled to an axle that is rotatably coupled to the strut frame and extends from a distal end of the strut frame. The tongue can rotate relative to the strut frame and the tongue can include a hole which can be coupled to other double axis frame struts or other structure. The hole in the tongue can define a first axis of rotation and the axle can define a second axis of rotation. The axis of the hole in the tongue can be perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the tongue relative to the strut frame.

  • Patent number: 9017032
Abstract: A rotor, such as a fan of a gas turbine engine, comprises blades 2 and annulus fillers 4 which extend between adjacent blades 2. Gaps 22 between each blade 2 and the adjacent annulus fillers 4 are sealed by sealing elements 8. The sealing elements 8 fit closely around the profile of the blade 2 and have annulus filler sealing surfaces 18 for sealing contact with the annulus fillers 4. The sealing elements 8 have low-friction blade sealing surfaces 12 so that, when the fan is rotating, centrifugal loading displaces the sealing elements 8 radially outwardly so that the annulus filler sealing surface 18 make sealing contact with the annulus fillers 4.

  • Publication number: 20150063539
Abstract: Systems and methods for scanning an item utilizing an X-ray scanner in order to facilitate a determination of whether the X-ray radiation penetrated through the entirety of the scanned item. Various embodiments comprise a conveying mechanism, an X-ray emitter, a detector, and an X-ray penetration grid (XPG). The XPG may comprise a radiopaque grid that may serve as a reference for determining whether radiation passes through the scanned item, the grid oriented such that the grid members are neither parallel nor perpendicular to the direction of travel. Such orientation may minimize or eliminate “ghosted” radiation signals included in a visual display of the radiation received by the detector. A scanned item may be oriented with the XPG such that radiation emitted by the X-ray emitter that passes through a portion of the scanned item must also pass through the XPG before being received by the detector.

  • Publication number: 20140240834
Abstract: An optical waveguide is provided having at least first and second diffraction regions, the first diffraction region being arranged to diffract image-bearing light propagating along the waveguide so as to expand it in a first dimension and to turn the image-bearing light towards the second diffraction region, the second diffraction region being arranged to diffract the image-bearing light so as to expand it in a second dimension and to release it from the waveguide as a visible image. The first diffraction region is formed by first diffraction grating embedded within the waveguide, arranged to present a substantially similar profile to the image-bearing light when incident upon the grating from a given angle above or below the grating such that the polarisation of the image bearing light is rotated by substantially similar amounts, but in opposite directions, by successive interactions with the first diffraction region.

  • Patent number: 8726886
Abstract: A fuel supply system includes a fuel supply pump and a jet pump utilizing flow from the supply pump to supply fuel to a fuel pump reservoir from a main fuel tank. The jet pump includes a body with a main inlet coupled to an outlet of the supply pump provided at its upper end. A nozzle is positioned on an interior of the body. A mixing tube is defined by the body downstream of the nozzle, and defines a channel extending along an axis. A suction inlet of the body is in fluid communication with the mixing tube channel. A jet pump outlet formed in the body is positioned at or above an upper portion of the reservoir such that fuel pours down into the reservoir. The body redirects fuel in a direction away from the axis for discharge through the jet pump outlet.

  • Publication number: 20140043689
Abstract: The present invention provides a projection display, for displaying an image to a viewer. An image-providing light source device is arranged to inject an input pupil of multi-spectral image bearing light into a waveguide assembly. The waveguide assembly comprises first and second diffraction regions arranged respectively for expanding the input pupil in first and second generally orthogonal dimensions and outputting an exit pupil expanded in the first and second dimensions from the waveguide assembly. The diffractive regions of the waveguide assembly are matched to cause zero or substantially zero net chromatic aberration.
