  • Patent number: 4973323
Abstract: As ostomy appliance having a collection pouch and a flexible faceplate, the faceplate including an outer ring of thin, microporous sheet material and an inner ring of flexible, thermoplastic film impervious to gases and body fluids. The outer microporous ring surrounds the inner ring so that their adjacent margins overlap and are sealed to each other. The faceplate also includes a barrier ring secured to the inner marginal portion of the microporous ring on the side opposite from the attachment of the impervious inner ring. A fluid-impervious annular seal is provided between the impervious inner ring and the barrier ring at a location radially inwardly from the microporous ring, thereby securing the parts together and isolating the inner margin of the microporous ring from contact by stomal fluids.

  • Patent number: 4889534
Abstract: An ostomy appliance including a collection pouch, an adhesive faceplate for adherence to a patient, and a coupling ring assembly detachably connecting the pouch and faceplate together. The coupling ring assembly comprises a pair of flexible plastic latching rings capable of being connected together by axially-applied forces and a soft, deformable, sealing ring interposed between, and axially compressed by, opposing wall portions of the latching rings.

  • Patent number: 4808173
Abstract: A coupling ring assembly for an ostomy appliance in which one of the rings has a generally radially-facing annular channel for receiving and detachably engaging a latching flange of the other of the rings, the channel having a deformable liner of viscoelastic polymeric material secured therein. In a preferred embodiment, the liner also has pressure-sensitive adhesive properties.

  • Patent number: 4378018
Abstract: A male urinary drainage device composed of a thin resilient external catheter or sheath and an adhesive sealant pad for holding the sheath in place and for producing an effective seal to prevent urine backup and leakage. The pad is formed of compressible, deformable, water-resistant, and elastic sealant material and includes a ring portion adapted to seal about the penis at or directly behind the glans thereof and at least one integral strap portion projecting radially from the ring portion and intended to extend along the penile shaft. The strap portion functions primarily to provide sheath retention, whereas the ring portion coacts with the retained sheath and with the penis to serve primarily as a barrier against fluid backup.

  • Patent number: 4311740
Abstract: An identification strip assembly especially adapted for use with tubular insert-receiving identification bands, such assembly taking the form of a base strip and an overlying cover strip. The base strip includes handle, insert, and tip sections delineated by transverse lines of perforation. The cover strip is secured only to the handle and tip sections of the base strip, is transversely perforated along a line disposed above the boundary between the handle and insert sections of the base strip, and is provided with means for producing an image on the insert section when such section, and the portion of the cover strip above it, are subjected to compressive force.
