  • Patent number: 5498055
Abstract: A recliner apparatus and method allows an occupant to recline with his feet elevated above his heart. The recliner has a chair structure composed of seat, back and footrest portions, that are supported by two side members of a frame structure. An adjustment device under the seat elevates the footrest in response to a downward rotation of the back relative to the seat. The chair structure may be rotated with respect to the frame structure by means of an elevated pivot structure attached to the side members of the frame.

  • Patent number: 4790599
Abstract: A reclining structure has a supporting frame structure and a fixed seat structure. The fixed seat structure is allowed to swing or pivot about a raised pivot connecting point on the frame structure so that, in its most reclined position, an occupant of the recliner has his feet raised to a level above his heart. The recliner seat structure features a back section, a seat section, and a footrest section, the three sections having a fixed structural relationship to each other. The frame structure features a first and a second side member, and elements for pivotably connecting the seat structure to the side members for swinging motion therebetween. The side members support, from the pivot point in each side member, the weight of the seat structure. The side members also support, in this manner, the weight of any occupant of the recliner. Thereby, the seat structure can swing beneath a pivot axis defined by the pivot points of the first and second side members.

  • Patent number: 4768829
Abstract: The invention features an improvement in an adjustable chair having a base, a seat coupled to the base and arranged to move with respect to the base along a center line plane of the chair, and a back hingedly connected to the seat to allow an adjustment of relative angular reclining position of the seat and back in response to movement of the seat. The claim further has a coupling and guiding assembly for coupling the seat to the base, for guiding forward and backward movement of the seat with respect to the base, and for frictionally holding the seat at any of a continuum of desired positions with respect to the base.

  • Patent number: 4504090
Abstract: An upholstered arm chair is capable of swivelling, tilting, rocking and reclining by reason of the provision of a U shaped arm rest body having a central platform with arm rests on each opposite side and supported at about seat level, on swivel and tilt mechanism, above floor level. A chair seat overlies the central platform and is slidable forwardly and rearwardly by followers in tracks on the arm rests and a back rest is pivotally connected to the chair seat by mechanical linkage to move to recline position as the seat moves forwardly and vice versa. A knob and set screw locks the followers in selected positions.
