Publication number: 20220120724Abstract: A detector (10; 110) is provided for mounting to a container (2) defining an internal space (6) in order to determine occupancy of the container. The detector includes a housing (12; 112), a mounting arrangement for mounting the housing to a container, a sensor arrangement comprising a first sensor (30; 130) disposed within the housing, the first sensor configured to determine a concentration of carbon dioxide within an internal space (6) of a container (2); and a control system (40; 140) configured to receive input values from the first sensor and to provide an output when the concentration of carbon dioxide exceeds a predetermined value. The housing is substantially sealed for preventing the ingress of debris into the housing, and the housing is configured such that air is able to flow into the housing and over the first sensor.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 12, 2020Publication date: April 21, 2022Inventors: Paul Sharman, Graham Bland, Timothy Hale

Patent number: 10702205Abstract: Apparatus and methods are described for setting rehabilitation goals for a patient, measuring patient movements, storing the movement data for later transfer to a computer, displaying progress indicators and inspirational messages based on progress towards goals, reporting movement, skin temperature and swelling data to a caregiver so that they monitor compliance and be aware of potential infection. The invention consolidates data from motion, temperature and swelling sensors placed on the patient with data received directly from the patient in response to questions displayed on a tablet computer screen, to create one or more representative values indicating the patient's current status. These representative values may include the patient's degree of compliance with their prescribed exercise and icing regimen; their degree of wellness based on their self-reported pain scale and sensed temperature and limb swelling; and their current level of physical activity as detected by the motion sensors.Type: GrantFiled: July 4, 2018Date of Patent: July 7, 2020Assignee: Claris Healthcare Inc.Inventors: Paul Sharman, Geof Auchinleck

Patent number: 10456075Abstract: A method for calibrating sensors applied to a patient to monitor rehabilitation is disclosed. The calibration method according to the invention that is insensitive to changes in the patient's body position during the calibration procedure—calibration of the flex sensors is facilitated regardless of what orientation they may be applied to the thigh and shank of patient. The calibration method uses three-axis accelerometers defined by software incorporated in local computer.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2017Date of Patent: October 29, 2019Assignee: Claris Healthcare Inc.Inventors: Geof Auchinleck, Paul Sharman

Publication number: 20170265800Abstract: A motion sensor is attached to a patient's limb distal to a joint on which surgery has occurred and another motion sensor is attached to the limb proximate to the joint. In the preferred embodiment, the motion sensors are accelerometers and gyroscopes that are capable of generating data that corresponds to flexion of the joint. Temperature sensors are attached to the patient at the surgical site at the joint and at a site separated from the surgical site so that the temperature difference between the sensors may be monitored. Data from the sensors is used to monitor the patient's post-surgical condition and rehabilitation and to provide feedback to the patient.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 2016Publication date: September 21, 2017Inventors: Geof Auchinleck, Paul Sharman, Stefan Fletcher

Patent number: 9312907Abstract: An apparatus for enclosing a tablet computer and for simplifying operation of the computer by senior citizens is described. The enclosure receives and supports a conventional table computer but purposefully occludes or blocks access to selected user-activated controls on the tablet such as the on-off switch, and control zone regions of the touch screen regions of the display. The enclosure is supported in a stand and includes speakers to amplify sound played through the tablet, and rechargeable batteries.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 2013Date of Patent: April 12, 2016Assignee: Claris Healthcare, Inc.Inventors: Geof Auchinleck, Paul Sharman

Patent number: 8657372Abstract: A vehicle seat including at least two components connected, directly or indirectly, by an adjustment mechanism. A locking means is provided, arranged to lock the two components relative to each other when predetermined conditions are experienced, to restrict relative movement of the two components. The locking means may be arranged to engage when a vehicle in which the seat is mounted is involved in an impact. The locking means reduces the amount of relative movement of seat components owing to compliance in seat adjustment mechanism in the event of a vehicle impact.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2009Date of Patent: February 25, 2014Assignee: Bentley Motors LimitedInventors: Steve Macmanus, Andrew Downie, Paul Sharman, Nicholas Stapleton

Patent number: 8403395Abstract: A seat tensioner (14) for a vehicle seat (1,2) includes a restraint member (15) and means (16) for tensioning the restraint member. The restraint member (15) is connected between the seat and a vehicle in which it is mounted and the means for tensioning is operative to tension the restraint member to urge the vehicle seat towards the vehicle. The restraint member (15) may be a cable and the means for tensioning (16) a gas activated piston and cylinder device. Means for disconnecting the restraint member from the seat may be provided to enable the seat to be moved following deployment of the tensioner.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2008Date of Patent: March 26, 2013Assignee: Bentley Motors limitedInventors: Steve Macmanus, Nick Stapleton, Andrew Downie, Paul Sharman

Publication number: 20110221246Abstract: A vehicle seat having means (24) arranged to positively displace a part of the seat relative to either another part of the seat and/or a vehicle in which the seat is mounted, in the event that predetermined conditions corresponding to a vehicle impact are encountered. The seat may be displaced by an actuator trigger by an electronic control unit in dependence on conditions sensed by one or more vehicle impact sensors.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 20, 2009Publication date: September 15, 2011Applicant: BENTLEY MOTORS LIMITEDInventors: Andrew Downie, Paul Sharman, Nicholas Stapleton, Steven Macmanus

Patent number: 6024405Abstract: A head restraint assembly 10 is disclosed having an adjustable head restraint member 11 which is securable in position between a forward position and a rearward position by a helical coil locking member 14. The locking member 14 is, in a normally relaxed state, of smaller internal diameter than the external diameter of a transverse support rod 24 with which it is engaged. By rotation of one end portion 19 of the locking member 14 with respect to the other end portion 21 the locking member 14 is partially unwound thereby releasing its locking grip on the support rod 24.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1998Date of Patent: February 15, 2000Assignee: Rover Group LimitedInventors: Kenneth Douglas MacAndrew, Paul Sharman

Patent number: 5829831Abstract: A split rear seat assembly is disclosed in which the upper fixing of a three point automatic safety belt assembly for a center seated passenger is mounted in such a manner that it is accessible from the rear side of a backrest forming part of the seat assembly. The seat belt assembly can therefore be easily fitted to the backrest even after the backrest has been trimmed. The seat backrest has a strong internal reinforcing frame so that loads from the seat belt assembly upper fixing can be safely resisted.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1997Date of Patent: November 3, 1998Assignee: Rover Group LimitedInventor: Paul Sharman
