  • Patent number: 6370754
Abstract: A method for assembling seatbelt webbing with a sill-end bracket using an apparatus for feeding seatbelt webbing through a sill-end bracket has a form-feeding member with a tapered channel for receiving one end of a length of seatbelt webbing on an assembly line. A webbing pull-through member is fed through the sill-end bracket and engages one end of the webbing. The pull-through device is then drawn back through the sill-end bracket thus drawing the webbing through the tapered channel of the form feeding member.

  • Patent number: 6364239
Abstract: A seat belt retractor has a frame, a spool rotatably mounted to the frame, a spool locking device for preventing rotation of the spool. An actuator actuates the spool locking device and has a support carrying an inertia mass and a pawl. The inertia mass is designed to move from an initial position to an actuating position to bring the pawl into engagement with a ratchet on the spool. Engagement of the pawl with the ratchet actuates the spool locking device. The support is arranged to pivot so as to adjust the distance between the pawl and the ratchet. In that way the position of the pawl can be adjusted to provide an optimum gap between the pawl tip and the ratchet on the spool.

  • Publication number: 20010011411
Abstract: An apparatus for assembling seatbelt webbing with a sill-end bracket has a form-feeding member with a tapered channel for receiving one end of a length of seatbelt webbing on an assembly line. A webbing pull-through member engages one end of the webbing. A bracket sensor senses the presence of a bracket at a correct position in the bracket support. Means responsive to a signal from a sensor may be provided for indicating the correct positioning of the sill-end bracket for feeding the pull-through member through the sill-end bracket. Means for driving the webbing into the tapered channel are provided so that said one end is located at a predetermined position relative to the form-feeding member. A method of manual or automatic assembling seatbelt webbing with a sill-end bracket is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6126200
Abstract: A rear seat vehicle seat belt buckle arrangement includes a buckle head and webbing for attaching the buckle head to a load bearing part of the vehicle. The webbing is fixed to at least two spaced apart attachment locations connected to the load bearing part of the vehicle. The webbing may be a single piece of webbing looped through a slot in the buckle head or two separate lengths of webbing and it may be attached to opposite or to spaced apart rings mounted to a mounting bracket bolted to a fixed part of the vehicle (e.g. a floor plate). The fixing bolt preferably passes between the two splayed parts of the webbing to retain the splayed form. This provides more comfort to the passenger and more flexibility whilst optimizing the safety of the restraint by restricting forward movement of the passenger in a crash and applying crash leads appropriately.
