  • Publication number: 20110249565
Abstract: The present application discloses systems and methods for adapting network capacity assigned to a partition. In some embodiment, the method includes: partitioning available capacity of a system into at least a first non-guaranteed bit rate (non-GBR) partition and a second non-GBR partition; determining that a performance goal for the first non-GBR partition is not met; and increasing a committed rate value associated with the first non-GBR partition and decreasing the committed rate value associated with the second non-GBR partition in response to determining that the performance goal is not met.

  • Publication number: 20110223918
Abstract: The invention relates to a method in a first communication node in a wireless communications network comprising a plurality of second communication nodes for enabling a central processing of local data from second communication nodes in the network. The first communication node establishes (82) an intemode connection in a radio access network of the wireless communications network to a second communication node wherein information is sent of a virtual cell of the first communication node. The first communication node then requests (84) and receives (86) local information from the second communication node. The received local information is then processed (88) into processed data to be used to centrally process the local information of the second communication node. For centrally processing the local information, the processed data is transmitted (90) to a third communication node.

  • Publication number: 20110222406
Abstract: The invention relates to a first communication device arranged to provide congestion indications to a second communication device. The first communication device comprises a control unit arranged to determine to apply an indicating congestion mechanism on a first radio bearer to the second communication device based on a quality of service setting of the first radio bearer. The control unit is further arranged to set a congestion threshold value and a first drop threshold value of a packet buffer associated to the first determined radio bearer. The congestion threshold value indicates that when buffered packets in the packet buffer exceeds the set congestion threshold value the control unit is arranged further to transmit over a transmitting arrangement at least one congestion indication to the second communication device.

  • Patent number: 7933214
Abstract: A device associated with a transport network generates a first traceroute through the transport network, and monitors a performance measure associated with the transport network. The device also compares the performance measure to a criterion, and determines degradation in the transport network when the performance measure matches the criterion. The device further generates a second traceroute through the transport network when the degradation occurs in the transport network, where the first and second traceroutes are used to determine a source of the degradation in the transport network.

  • Publication number: 20110044198
Abstract: The technology pertains to wireless telecommunications systems in which a quality of service is handled for a service provided to a user equipment when the user equipment transitions from being served by a source network to being served by a target network. The quality of service is handled even if the source and the target networks implement proprietary QCIs. In general, a source QCI, which may be proprietary to the source network, is remapped to a predetermined QCI that identifies a set of predetermined QCI characteristics whose values are similar to the source QCI characteristics identified by the source QCI. The predetermined QCI and the set of predetermined QCI characteristics are used by the target network to provide the service to the user equipment after the transition.

  • Publication number: 20100254277
Abstract: There is provided a method of determining latency in a remote network element of a telecommunications network. In one embodiment, the method comprises receiving a message at a network element, the message comprising a time stamp of the time at which it was sent from a source network element. On receiving the message, the network element obtains another time stamp, and so may determine the time for the message to be sent between the network elements. In further embodiments, a source network element may gain an implicit indication of the workload of the remote network element by sending a first message to the remote network element and determining a length of time before the remote network element sends a second message back to the source network element.

  • Publication number: 20070253365
Abstract: A system and method for monitoring performance of an identified end-user service in a radio access network (RAN) in which multiple services utilize the same bearer service. A core network node such as an SGSN includes an operator-configurable mapping table for mapping end-user services to Service Identifiers. The SGSN sends a Service Identifier to the RAN, preferably at bearer establishment or modification. Service event counters in the RAN are configured to measure performance parameters for the identified end-user service. The Service Identifier may be sent as a tag in a radio bearer request or modify message, and the RAN may be configured to apply different parameter settings for network counters depending on the service identifier tag received in the radio bearer request message.

  • Patent number: 5603092
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for estimating the C/I density and interference probability in the uplink. According to the invention, two or more base stations synchronously measure signal strength and signal identity in the uplink in their own and each other's channels. By measuring over a sufficiently long time, a statistical basis for how the signal strengths from mobiles connected to a respective base station are distributed is obtained. From the basis, density functions for the signal strength from traffic to its own and, respectively, another station can be formed. Due to the synchronous measuring method, the functions can be normalized and a C/I or C/I+N density function can be formed, from which the interference probability can be calculated (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 5418843
Abstract: A method is employed for estimating traffic density in a mobile telephone network. A specialized measuring mobile unit which is capable of determining its own position independently of the system is allowed to pass through relevant traffic routes during which time the measuring mobile station transmits a radius signal as well as its position to the various fixed measuring stations. The signal strength received from the measuring mobile station is recorded synchronously with the aid of a number of suitably cited measuring base stations. The measuring values from the measuring stations are compiled with the respective registered positions so that an unambiguous relationship between the signal strength values and the position of a mobile station passing through the entire system is obtained. An actual traffic is then measured with the aid of the measuring station and the measurement results thereof are related to the geographic positions so that a topographic distribution of the traffic density is obtained.
