  • Patent number: 6280478
Abstract: A three-dimensional lattice structure for use as a bone implant where bone growth is required. The lattice structure has a plurality of laths or bars of bioactive material. The laths or bars cross each other in a plurality of zones, and are interconnected in these zones forming interstices between the adjacent laths or bars. The interstices define a plurality of interconnected pored or channels in the lattice structure.

  • Patent number: 6162326
Abstract: A process for draining a fibrous pulp web is preferably carried out on drum thickeners or disk filters. A suspension to be drained rests against a perforated first face, which is a part of the rotor of the drum thickener or disk filter, is transported from the suspension vat, and then arrives in a thickening region. The thickening region contains a second face, wherein the first and second face have a relative speed in relation to each other. The effectiveness of the thickening can be significantly increased by vacuum zones provided on the drum thickener or disk filter.

  • Patent number: 6106669
Abstract: A process for thickening a fibrous pulp suspension by guiding the suspension between a rigid first face and a flexible second face that move in relation to each other and form a converging draining gap, where the first face and/or the second face is/are water permeable, and where the process includes providing the suspension to be drained, forming from the suspension a fibrous pulp layer with a solid matter content of at least about 4% on at least one of the first face and the second face, guiding the fibrous pulp layer into the draining gap, applying a pressure differential in the draining gap via the second face to thicken the fibrous pulp layer, the pressure differential being formed by stretching the second face and pressing the first face and the second face toward each other to drain water from the fibrous pulp layer, and transporting the thickened fibrous pulp from the draining gap.

  • Patent number: 5959295
Abstract: A method and device for positioning non-linear machine parts using a timing element, particularly for machine parts that are in non-linear motion. The invention has a pair of sensors spaced apart for reading bar code marks on the timing unit when the timing unit is disposed on a circular or spherically-shaped carrier surface. Where long surfaces are involved, the ends of the timing unit or clock ruler are butt-jointed together and include a gap having a width deviating from the window openings of the bar code. Thus, the second sensor, which is connected to a second comparator, contains a test circuit for the code signals that are received. When the code signals do not correspond to the width of the bar code pitch, they are passed over to a second counter, and the first counter is disconnected from the line.

  • Patent number: 5884407
Abstract: A motion sensor has a carrier which rotatably supports a shaft. One or more eccentric weights are mounted on the shaft for rotation therewith. The carrier is supported by pins which are normal to the shaft and rotatable on bearings. One of the pins carries a disk with marks in the form of lines, and a sensing device for the marks is disposed adjacent the disk. This pin further carries a transmission component which cooperates with a transmission component on the shaft. When an object on which the motion sensor is mounted is tilted about the axis of the shaft, the weights are displaced from an equilibrium position. The weights return to the equilibrium position under the action of gravity thereby rotating the shaft which, in turn, rotates the disk via the transmission components. If the object is tilted about the axes of the pins, inertia causes rotation of the disk. The rotation of the disk is detected by the sensing device which can trigger an alarm.

  • Patent number: 5734173
Abstract: A method and device for positioning moving machine parts by using two sensors to detect the spacing of code markers on a code bearing part attached to the machine part and counting the number of code markers detected while accounting for uneven spacing between code markers which invariably occur when two code bearing parts are joined for use on a single machine part.

  • Patent number: 5682818
Abstract: A drive for a printer includes a printing roller which is driven by a step motor located at one axial end of the roller. A monitoring unit for the printing roller is disposed at the other axial end of the roller and comprises a belt which is mounted on two guide rollers. The rotational axes of the guide rollers are parallel to the rotational axis of the printing roller. The outer surface of the belt frictionally engages a portion of the peripheral surface of the printing roller so that the belt moves in response to rotation of the printing roller. One of the guide rollers for the belt drives a synchronizing disc having indicating elements which are sensed by a detector. The detector generates a synchronizing signal whenever an indicating element is detected, and the synchronizing signals are sent to a control unit. The control unit compares the synchronizing signals with reference signals and sends control signals to the motor when the synchronizing signals deviate from the reference signals.

  • Patent number: 5672865
Abstract: Disclosed are a timing device for controlling machine tools, handling equipment or other servomechanical elements and a method of manufacture. The timing device comprises a timing control element having a light sensitive layer including thereon a plurality of transparent windows and opaque windows arranged in a selected pattern, a reflective means disposed behind the light sensitive layer, and a carrier material disposed behind the reflective means. A transmitter emits light toward the timing control element. The device further comprise means for operating the timing control element to controllably select one of the transparent and opaque windows to be in the path of the emitted light. The emitted light propagates through one of the transparent windows, and is reflected by the reflective means only when the selected window is transparent. A receiver, disposed adjacent to the transmitter, generates an electrical signal in response to the reflected light.
