  • Patent number: 6722875
Abstract: An injection molding machine with a vertically operating clamp mechanism is provided with a pair of locking devices on the upper movable platen to lock the locking rods for high tonnage clamping forces. Each locking device uses spring biased actuating rods to simultaneously lock two locking rods to the movable platen in an always “on” arrangement. A power on actuator is provided to release the locking device for raising and lowering the movable platen. A vertical ladder frame is provided for guiding the movable platen when it is raised or lowered. Additionally, a lift mechanism is provided for a rotary table carrying the lower mold halves.

  • Patent number: 6616441
Abstract: An injection molding machine with a vertically oriented clamp is equipped with a rotatable table for sequentially processing a plurality of bottom mold halves mounted thereon. An aligning device insures accurate positioning of a bottom mold half in molding relation to a top mold half in the clamp by insuring seating of a locating pin in a locating hole in the table after the table has been rotatably indexed to bring a bottom mold half into alignment with a movable top half. The locating pin is secured to an actuator mounted by a guide rail and runner block to the machine's stationary platen. As the pin is pushed into the locating hole by the actuator, the aligning device linearly moves along the guide rail and the table slightly rotates to allow seating of the locating pin into the locating hole.

  • Patent number: 5324192
Abstract: A molding press (10) for simultaneously operating a pair of molds, each having a pair of mold sections (M1, M2; M3, M4), including a base (13) for mounting two horizontally displaced mold sections (M1, M3), each constituting one section of one of the pair of molds, a first bolster (11) for mounting a mold section (M2) in alignment for mating engagement with one mold section (M1) on the base, a second bolster (12) for mounting a mold section (M4) in alignment for mating engagement with the other mold section (M3) on the base, rod assemblies (30) for interconnecting the first bolster and the second bolster in fixed space relation, for guiding relative movement between the base and the bolsters during opening and closing of the pair of molds, and for mounting pistons (44, 160) operatively interrelated with cylinder assemblies (40,140) on the base, and an auxiliary cylinder assembly (70) for effecting relative movement between the base and the bolsters for opening of one of the pair of molds while closing the oth

  • Patent number: 5091124
Abstract: A high tonnage reaction injection molding (RIM) press has fixed and movable platens for clamping a composite mold therebetween at a closed mold position. A plurality of high pressure hydraulic cylinders are mounted on a carrier for the movable platen, and a locking mechanism having a plurality of incrementally spaced locking positions is effective to lock the carrier selectively at said positions. A pair of low power hydraulic piston-cylinder assemblies connected with the carrier adjacent to its opposite ends move the carrier and movable platen to the closed position. Short stroke connecting rods operated by the high pressure cylinders are forced independently of each other into high tonnage engagement with the movable platen at a plurality of locations within the area of the composite mold to clamp the latter between the platens and positively seal its junctions, whereupon a RIM mix head injects the high pressure reactive chemicals into the sealed mold.

  • Patent number: 4958933
Abstract: A novel plastic extruder is taught which employs a compound feed screw having both a flights' section, and a wiper section adjacent thereto. The compound feed screw is positioned in a jacketed extruder barrel through which a foam plastic melt is propelled and cooled by means of a coolant circulated through the jacket, or other cooling means, prior to being forced through a die to form a cellular plastic sheet. The flights' section of the feed comprises a helical spiral ridge machined on a rotatable shaft, while the wiper section comprises a plurality of wiper blade assemblies mounted longitudinally on pairs of spaced apart, raised circular ridges, machined on the shaft, adjacent wiper blade assemblies being mounted radially displaced relative to each other.

  • Patent number: 4944669
Abstract: A high tonnage reaction injection molding press has a fixed and a moveable mold plate for clamping a composite mold therebetween. A plurality of high pressure hydraulic cylinders are mounted on a carrier for the movable mold plate. Fluid actuated means move the carrier and movable plate to a locking position whereat the carrier is locked adjacent to the fixed plate. Short stroke connecting rods operated by the cylinders are then forced independently of each other into high tonnage connected engagement with the movable plate at a plurality of locations within the area of the mold to clamp the mold between the plates. The high tonnage force applied independently at each location assures that the junctures of the composite mold adjacent to said locations are positively sealed.
