  • Patent number: 7787440
Abstract: A first wireless device may connect to a wireless telecommunications network, and it may communicate with the wireless telecommunications network over an air interface signaling channel. The first wireless device may exchange messages with a second device, such as a wired device or a wireless device, in order to establish a session with the second device. The first wireless device may send or receive the messages over an air interface with its wireless telecommunications network using short data bursts.

  • Patent number: 7768941
Abstract: A VPN server on a radio access network may initiate a virtual private network (VPN) over a shared network, e.g., Internet, on behalf of a wireless terminal. The VPN may span the shared network, but not span the radio access network. As a result, the radio access network may be able to analyze and manipulate data sent by the wireless terminal. Additionally, the VPN may securely transport the data through the shared network.

  • Patent number: 7565434
Abstract: A method of canceling setup of a real-time media conference session between an originating station and a terminating station via a conference server in a scenario where the conference server receives an invitation message from the originating station to set up a conference session with the terminating station and the conference server receives a cancellation message from the originating station before setup of a conference leg between the conference server and the terminating station is complete. In such a scenario, the conference server would complete setup of the conference leg between the conference server and the terminating station. Then, the conference server may send a teardown message to the terminating station. The teardown message tears down the conference leg between the conference server and the terminating station.

  • Patent number: 7301935
Abstract: A method and system for responding to a request to establish a dial-up data session from a user terminal to a remote destination. Instead of initiating a dial-up data session, the user terminal will initiate a packet-data session with a translation node that serves the remote destination and will provide the translation node with information about initiating the dial-up data session. The translation node will then initiate circuit-data session with the remote destination and will bridge the packet-data session with the circuit-data session, so as to establish an end-to-end data session between the user terminal and the remote destination. Advantageously, by setting up a packet-data session between the user terminal and the translation node, the underlying data may be carried over an access link at a higher service level than would normally be provided for a circuit-data session carried over that access link. Further, this can be done transparently to a user.

  • Patent number: 7149535
Abstract: A method and system for initiating re-paging of a mobile station at an interval that is a function of the mobile station's paging slot cycle. A radio access network will select a time interval based on a mobile station's slot cycle index and will conclude that a page attempt has failed if the radio access network does not receive a page response from the mobile station by the expiration of the time interval after paging the mobile station. Upon expiration of the time interval, the radio access network will then re-page the mobile station at a next timeslot commensurate with the slot cycle index being used for paging the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 7043266
Abstract: A method and system for selectively reducing call-setup latency. The method and system provides for selectively increasing the paging frequency used for paging certain mobile stations, so as to decrease the time that it takes to establish radio-link connectivity with those mobile stations. The method and system is particularly useful when establishing real-time communication sessions, such as instant chat sessions, but may be useful in other scenarios as well.

  • Patent number: 6950501
Abstract: A system and a method for providing Internet-based telephone call message translation for translating messages between parties of a telephone call from text to speech and from speech to text, as required. A server having communication capability over an Internet Protocol connection is provided. At least one message translator having communication capability over an Internet Protocol connection is also provided. A communication link through the server is provided between at least a first party of a number of parties of a telephone call and the message translator via an Internet Protocol connection.

  • Publication number: 20030190888
Abstract: A method and system for reducing latency in establishment of a real-time communication session, such as an instant chat session for instance. The method and system provides for buffering an initial real-time media signal until a transmission path exists to send the signal along its way toward a receiving station. Upon establishment of the transmission path, the signal may then be sent along its way. Further, the method and system may provide for selectively increasing the paging frequency used for paging certain mobile stations, so as to decrease the time that it takes to establish radio-link connectivity with those mobile stations.

  • Patent number: 6277074
Abstract: A method for motion estimation within biological tissue is disclosed. The method involves acoustically coupling a transducer to a target biological tissue, which transducer emits an ultrasonic signal and collects the energy back-scattered by the target issue. A first set of energy data is collected and stored, then target tissue is axially compressed and a second set of ultrasonic energy data is collected and stored. One of the first and second data sets is warped to account for the anticipated compression forming a warped data set. This warped data set is cross-correlated with the unwarped one of the first and said second data sets to obtain a fine scale displacement of said target biological tissue from the displacement estimated by the warping. This fine scale displacement is summed with the warped data set to obtain a total axial displacement. A gradient of the total axial displacement is taken and used to form a strain image. An apparatus for practicing this method is also disclosed.
