  • Patent number: 8063849
Abstract: A method for a user to navigate in a surrounding world captured by one or more image sensors and displayed to the user in an image display area of a display device which in use is in front of the user's head and follows the movements of his head. When the user's head is directed in an area which the user can easily reach by turning his head, the display is controlled by his head direction. When the head direction reaches the edge of what the user can reach by turning his head, use is instead made of controlling by gaze direction of that displayed, in which case the point of the surrounding world pointed out by the gaze direction is continuously placed in a predetermined area of the image. The change occurs either automatically by the user's gaze direction being at the edge of the image display area or by a command, for instance with the user's voice or a motion of his hand.

  • Patent number: 7948451
Abstract: An interactive method of presenting information in an image to a user, who carries a head-mounted display device that presents an image of the surroundings. The user's head position and direction are established in relation to the surroundings and a calculating device establishes, based on this, which part of the surroundings is positioned in front of the user's head. Furthermore, the calculating device establishes where in a chain of information the user is positioned and, based on this, presents information in the form of a virtual image which is mixed with the real image. A central part of the image is then defined and fields and/or objects outside this area are shown in a non-disturbing way until the user's gaze has left the central part. The user informs the calculating device that he/she has received the information and, respectively, performed the current operations by looking at the fields/objects.

  • Publication number: 20080024392
Abstract: The present invention relates to an interactive method of presenting information in an image to a user, who carries a head-mounted display device (2+5, 27), which presents an image of the surroundings (3, 9, 25). The method comprises that the user's head position and direction are established in relation to the surroundings and that a calculating device (7) establishes, based on this, which part of the surroundings is positioned in front of the user's head. Furthermore the calculating device establishes where in a hierarchical scheme the user is positioned as regards information about and performed operations concerning that part of the surroundings which is positioned in front of the user's head and, based on this, which information is to be presented to the user and presents this in the form of a virtual image which is mixed with the real image. The user studies the information and, where required, performs the current operations.

  • Publication number: 20070247457
Abstract: A device and a method for displaying an image of the surroundings to a user (90), comprising an image sensor device (10), which records image information of a surrounding world, connected via a transmission device (20) to a central unit (30), and a head-mounted display device (40), where the central unit (30) displays images from the image sensor device (10). The invention comprises that the central unit (30) generates a virtual 3D world where image information (8) is projected in real time from the image sensor device (10) as textures in a 3D world. Parts of the 3D world are then displayed on the display device (40) in real time.
