  • Patent number: 5987874
Abstract: A method and apparatus for power generation based on char includes partial combustion of char with preheated air in a flow of recirculated bed material; final combustion of the partially burned material in a flow of bed material; separation of the products of the final combustion in a separator which delivers bed material to an intermediary vessel and gas to the gas turbine combustion chamber; recirculation of bed material to the combustion steps via the intermediary vessel, where it is cooled and divided into two flows; preheating of air from the gas turbine compressor, which has been divided into two flows by mixing the air with bed material from the intermediary vessel; generation of electric power in a combine cycle with a gas turbine with reheated gas from the separator, and a steam turbine; and recovery of heat from the turbine exhaust gases for use in the steam cycle.

  • Patent number: 5578092
Abstract: A method for producing fuels based on solid carbonaceous natural fuels which are particularly suited for non-polluting thermal power generation with gas and steam turbines in a combined cycle which is characterized in that the flow of finely-divided natural fuel is pyrolyzed at superatmospheric pressure, suitably 5 to 20 bar, and >700.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 5546435
Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement for carrying out leak detection of a fuel assembly for a pressurized-water nuclear reactor. A substantially vertical hollow mast means open in both ends houses the fuel assembly to be examined. The fuel assembly is drawn to the inside of the mast means from its lower side. The part of the mast means housing the fuel assembly is lifted to a position in which the fuel assembly is provided near but below the water surface of water inside the nuclear reactor. Water is sucked from a position inside the mast means above the fuel assembly. A gas separating means separates gases present in water sucked from the inside of the mast means. The separated gas is analyzed in a gas analyzing means regarding its amount of gaseous fission products.

  • Patent number: 5251691
Abstract: A device for the indirect heating of air or another gas at high pressure to a high temperature, consisting of a heat exchanger of a special construction submerged in a fluid bed of the "classical type", through which flows a fluidized hot, finely powdered bed material which is introduced (2) below the bed surface (3) and discharged through an overflow (5). The heat exchanger surface is formed by hairpin-shaped tubes (6) with legs of unequal length, the shorter legs thereof discharging into the upper bottom of an inlet chamber (7) and the longer legs thereof extending down through a tubular lead-through (9) between the bottoms of said inlet chamber (7), which lead-through is concentric with said tube leg and opens into the upper bottom of an outlet chamber (8), with an annular channel between said tube (6) and said lead-through (9).

  • Patent number: 5241825
Abstract: Electrical energy is produced from solid fuels in an ACFBC steam generator with two gas turbines and a steam turbine. The fuel is pyrolyzed in a fluid pyrolysis bed (34) with a hot partial flow of the bed material from the ACFBC steam generator (30), which together with the formed pyro coke is returned to the generator (30) as a fuel. The formed pyro gas (35) is combusted in one of said gas turbines (10), the exhaust gas (16) from which is used for steam generation (17). The other gas turbine (20) is operated with compressed air from its high pressure compressor (22) partially heated in a heat exchanger (51) in a fluid bed (50) with a controlled partial flow of hot bed material from said generator (30). The compressed air is finally heated by burning (24) fuel directly therein, and the exhaust gas from the power turbine part (22) is used as combustion air in the generator (30) which produces super heated high pressure steam for the steam turbine (40).
