  • Patent number: 4850603
Abstract: An annular gasket of elastic resilient material for sealing the annular gap between a spigot end and a socket end of two pipes, said spigot end and socket having substantially coaxial sealing surfaces. The gasket comprises a main sealing body which, during the assembly of the pipes, non-slidingly engages a first pipe, and a thin-walled further body which defines a closed cavity containing a lubricant. During assembly of the elements, said further body is entrained by the second pipe and rolls between this pipe and the main sealing body. The inner surfaces of the hollow further body are pressed into contact with each other and slide relative to each other. The flattened further body increases the thickness of the gasket by twice the wall thickness of the further body.

  • Patent number: 4690414
Abstract: A gasket for sealing the gap between two approximately parallel sealing surfaces which are displaced axially relative to each other during the assembly, during which the gasket follows one of the sealing surfaces and is compressed between said surface and the other sealing surface. The gasket body which is made of a soft elastic material, for example rubber, consists of two main parts (1) and (2) which are connected through a narrower connection part in such a manner that the sliding part (2) can pivot relative to the attachment part (1). To avoid a relative rotation of the gasket parts such that the assembly becomes unsuccessful, the axis of the connection part (3) extends diagonally from the point of attack (A) on the sliding part (2), towards the supporting surface (7) on the attachment part (1). The sliding part (2) may have a concave surface (4), and the connection piece (3) can have a less stiffness than the sliding part (2). The attachment part (1) can be connected to a reinforcement (17 ).

  • Patent number: 4299399
Abstract: A gasket of elastic material, such as rubber or similar for use in forming a seal between respective sealing surfaces of two members to be joined, the sealing surfaces of the members being moved substantially parallel to each other during installation for squeezing the gasket therebetween. The gasket comprises in combination a major portion or core which due to the squeezing between the sealing surfaces effects a packing pressure, and a relatively thin gasket portion embracing the core so as to define a closed jacket around the core, said jacket being provided with a lubricant on the inside, and so as to transfer the movement taking place between the sealing surfaces via the jacket by the sliding thereof along the core. The jacket may be provided with intermediate portions, such as folds, undulations or corrugations which are stretched during installation for thereby increasing the sliding length of the jacket.

  • Patent number: 4170365
Abstract: A gasket of rubber or a similar material for sealing joints between the sealing surfaces of two members to be joined, for example pipe sections comprising a spigot and a socket part. The gasket is placed in a fixed position on the sealing surface of one of the members, and for assembly of the members the sealing surfaces of both members are displaced substantially parallel to each other for squeezing the gasket therebetween due to displacement of portions of the gasket relative to other gasket portions. The gasket portions which during the installation of the members are displaced relative to each other define one or more closed very narrow slits extending in the longitudinal direction of the gasket. The width of the slits is so small that the said gasket portions while being displaced during the installation are constantly in contact and slide along each other.
