  • Patent number: 9119148
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for reducing power consumption of a receiver in a mobile communication network comprising a sender transmitting packet data on a downlink channel to one or more receivers over a radio interface. Inactive time instants and listening time instants are defined according to provided rules. The receiver is arranged to listen for information from the sender during the listening time instants and to sleep during the inactive time instants. Thus, less power will be consumed during the inactive time instants.

  • Publication number: 20150074288
Abstract: A data unit processing entity 4 is described, which has a decision part 41 for setting a forwarding address FA on the basis of an identifying address in a received data unit, by referring to decision data stored in a decision data memory 42. A management part 43 is provided, which is arranged to provide a network control function 51 with access to the decision data in the decision data memory 42, in order to change said decision data, independently of any access given to mobile nodes.

  • Patent number: 8938525
Abstract: The invention is directed towards determining an access node (14, 16) for a terminal (18) in a network (10) having one or more access nodes capable of providing access to the terminal based on one or more access technologies. Access node is selected through determining whether at least one network parameter provided by a network node (12, 14, 16) is required as input for the access node selection for the terminal. If it is determined that the at least one network parameter is required as input, the network parameter is obtained and an access node possibly together with access type for the terminal is selected at least based on said network parameter.

  • Patent number: 8867567
Abstract: The invention provides methods method for access selection in a Multi-Access Network offering a plurality of Access Technologies (AT). The device may comprises a Multi Access Management entity (MAM) and a plurality of Generic Link Layer Entities (GLL) associated to a plurality of Accesses (A) according to said plurality of Access Technologies (AT). The access selection comprises an Access determination and an Access configuration. In a first step a Generic Link Layer Entity (GLL) determines one or more Generic Performance Metrics (GPM) corresponding to one or more configurations of the Access (A). The Generic Link Layer Entity (GLL) sends the determined one or more Generic Performance Metrics (GPM) corresponding to one or more configurations of the access (A) to the Multi Access Management entity (MAM). The Multi Access Management entity (MAM) determines from received Generic Performance Metrics (GPM), which Access (A) offers a configuration (GPM), which is suited for an application/bearer requirements.

  • Patent number: 8594581
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a wireless station for initiating radio resource measurements. A wireless station identifies a need for radio resource measurements by a second wireless station despite there is no association between the wireless station and the second wireless station allowing direct radio communication between said stations. The wireless station initiates a request for radio resource measurements by the second wireless station.

  • Patent number: 8259756
Abstract: The present invention is based on the idea to allocate HS-DSCH power at TTI based on the HS-SCCH allocation of UI and an estimation of the HS-SCCH allocation of TTI+1. The estimation of the HS-SCCH allocation of TTI+1 is based on estimation of which users that will be scheduled at the time denoted TTI+1. i.e., the users that have a high probability to be selected for transmission by the scheduler at the time denoted TTI+1 are determined. That is performed by calculating for each user the probability that the user will be selected for transmission by the scheduler. The users that have a high probability to be scheduled at the time TTI+1 are included in a candidate set according to the present invention.

  • Patent number: 8213382
Abstract: A technique is provided for use by a Multi-Radio Management Resource (MRRM) component of a multi-radio wireless communication system for controlling the handover of a mobile terminal between different radio access technologies (RAT). In one example, all suitable RATs having coverage areas currently covering the location of a mobile terminal are identified. The performance gain that might be achieved via a handover to one of the other RATs is then determined by the MRRM based on various performance gain factors. Handover costs that will be incurred as a result of the handover are also explicitly calculated. Then, a cost-adjusted gain is determined by the MRRM based on the performance gain and the handover costs. A handover is only triggered by the MRRM if the cost-adjusted gain exceeds a minimum threshold. The speed and trajectory of the mobile terminal may also be considered.

  • Patent number: 8200820
Abstract: A method of access management in a communication system comprising a terminal, a first access point, a second access point and a network is described. The first access point offers a first access connection to the terminal and the second access point offers a second access connection to the terminal. A first network connection is provided between the network and the first access point and a second network connection is provided between the network and the second access point. Access connection information associated with at least one of the first and second access connections is monitored, and network connection information associated with at least one of the first and second network connections is monitored. An access connection selection decision is based on the monitored access connection information and the monitored network connection information.

  • Patent number: 8155617
Abstract: A method and arrangement for making a handover decision in a multi-access communication network is disclosed. A first set of criteria is determined for when a handover between at least two access paths should be performed and a report is sent when at least one criterion of a first set of criteria is fulfilled. A second set of criteria is determined for when a handover between said at least two access paths should be performed and a report is sent when at least one criterion of said second set of criteria is fulfilled. One or more data sessions of at least one user terminal network are determined to be handed over based on the sent reports and a core network anchor and a terminal anchor are directed to execute a handover by re-routing said determined data sessions from one access path to an alternative access path.

  • Patent number: 8125921
Abstract: The invention discloses a mobile station (200), a base station (300), a method and a computer program for communication in a wireless communication network (100), where cell edge user experiencing difficulties on the contention-based channel are treated differently than those users who are not power limited and/or do not experience collisions. Suggested solutions to this problem may be different treatment of the cell edge users in contrast to users located closer to the base station (300) either by communication over an orthogonal scheduled channel, or by forcing mobile stations (200) who have successfully sent their data to wait a specific time period or by dividing the mobile stations (200) into different groups based on the signal attenuation experienced by the different mobile stations (200).

  • Patent number: 8010150
Abstract: A mobile ambient network (MAN) negotiator 106 is provided for negotiating with ambient access networks (AANs) 102 on behalf of a MAN 104 to select a particular AAN to handle a wireless communication session for the MAN. The MAN is, e.g., either a user terminal (UT) or a private area network (PAN). The negotiations performed by the MAN negotiator on behalf of the MAN include establishing a secure, trusted relationship between the MAN and the AAN, as well as negotiating costs, billing arrangements and the like. The MAN negotiator communicates with the MAN via a dedicated wireless communication channel but preferably communicates with the AANs via non-wireless, i.e. fixed, connections.
