  • Patent number: 5607142
Abstract: A lifting apparatus (1) comprises a frame (30) and a carrier device (12) for carrying a load (2). The lifting apparatus includes two separate suspension devices (11a, b) which, by respective lines (13a, b) are connected to respective rotary drums (14a, b) for winding or unwinding of the line. A switching device (15a, b) is provided for each respective drum and is disposed, in a first position, to interconnect the drum with a prime mover (16) for rotation of the drum (14a, b) in one direction of rotation in which the line (13a, b) is wound up onto or unwound from the drum. As a rule, the second drum is disengaged from the prime mover (16) when this drives that drum on which the line is wound up or from which the line is unwound.

  • Patent number: 5490293
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transferring a load (8) carried by a carrier member (12) between two mutually separate transport paths (3a, b). During transfer, the carrier member switches from being suspended by a device (4a) displaceable in the first carrier path (4a) to being suspended by a device (4b) displaceable in the second carrier path (3b). The carrier member (12) when it is suspended by a first connecting device (9a, 11a) from the displaceable device (4a) of the first conveyor path (4a), is connected to the displaceable device (4b) of the second conveyor path (3b) by a second connecting device (9b, 11b). The length of the second connecting device is reduced and the carrier member (12) is displaced thereby so as to be wholly suspended from the displacement device (4b) of the second conveyor path. A drive mechanism lengthens or shortens at least one of the connecting devices in relation to a housing (14) for modifying the distance between the carrier member (12) and the displaceable devices (4a, 4b).

  • Patent number: 5447396
Abstract: A cutting insert, preferably for milling cutters, comprises an upper side or chip surface, a bottom surface and side surfaces extending between the upper and bottom surfaces. At least one of the side surfaces having a relief surface adjacent to a cutting edge, which relief surface is helically twisted along the cutting edge so that the relief or clearance angle decreases with increasing cutting depth. This arrangement makes it possible to obtain an equally large clearance along the cutting edge even with a negative inclination of the cutting insert in the milling cutter body.

  • Patent number: 4993890
Abstract: The invention provides a milling cutter for machining metal workpieces and a cartridge therefor. The milling cutter comprises a plurality of peripheral recesses for the receipt of insert-equipped cartridges. One of the walls of said recess is provided by two arms integral with the milling cutter body that each by means of a screw is arranged to clamp the cartridge against one wall in said recess. The cartridge is provided with two bores having suitable clearance for the receipt of said screws.

  • Patent number: 4461233
Abstract: A device for releasing a life boat or the like from a hoisting cable, said device comprising a lifting members (13) attached to the boat, a hook (15) being pivotably mounted at said lifting member, said hook being openable by a releasing device. The object of the invention is to provide a releasing device for emergency situations when the normal releasing device is not functioning and which should be releasable even when the full weight of the boat loads the hooks. This has been achieved by the fact that the lifting member (13) is displaceable in its longitudinal direction and that a locking device (29) actuatable by an emergency device is arranged for blocking the lifting member from displacement.

  • Patent number: 4436180
Abstract: A method and a device for pivoting an accommodation ladder from a stowing position on a ship's deck to an active position outside the ship's side by means of at least one davit (17) and a pulley (21) for the operating wire (22) of the ladder, said pulley being pivotably mounted at the davit. The pulley is pivoted between two positions admitting the center of gravity of one ladder to pass the vertical line through the pivot axle (14) of the ladder when the ladder by means of the operating wire (22) is pivoted from stowing and active position resp. The pivoting of the pulley (21) is achieved by means of a member (27), e.g. a wire transmitting a pull to the pulley caused by the weight of the ladder during the downward movement thereof.

  • Patent number: 4192490
Abstract: A lance for injecting a powdery material together with a carrier gas in metal melts such as liquid steel. The lance consists of a tubular body with an inner pipe bore having an inlet end and an outlet end for transport of powder through the tube. The lance has at least one outlet duct arranged adjacent the lower end for conducting powder from the pipe bore to the outside of the lance, said duct forming an angle of less than 90.degree. with the axis of the lance and being directed slopingly outwards/downwards from the bore towards the lance tip. The outlet duct or ducts are arranged in a nozzle contiguous to the tip of the lance, said tip being formed by a ceramic body intended for abutment against the bottom or wall in a ladle. In the outlet end of the pipe bore there is arranged a distributing means with a conical end adjacent the inlet openings of the outlet duct or ducts, for uniform distribution of the powdery material thereto.
