  • Publication number: 20030169818
Abstract: A digital video camera system may utilize a joint video and still image pipeline that simultaneously acquires, processes, transmits and/or stores digital video and high resolution digital still image photographs. The joint pipeline may include a video pipeline optimized for digital video frames and a high resolution still image pipeline optimized for high resolution digital still image frames. The digital video camera system may also concurrently acquire and process video frames and high resolution still image frames in burst mode by downsampling the video frames into reduced size video frames so that the single processing pipeline can allot more time to process the high resolution still image frames in real time. The loss in video quality may be compensated using motion estimation and information from the high resolution still image frames.

  • Patent number: 6585521
Abstract: A method and a corresponding apparatus for video indexing based on viewers' behavior and emotion feedback to automatically index a multimedia sequence using viewers' casual feedback while watching the multimedia sequence. The method and apparatus use a system, such as an emotion detection system that includes one or more multimedia acquisition devices, such as video cameras, to detect viewers' behavior and emotion feedback, and to produce as video indices various categories of behavior and emotion segments. Each video camera may include one or more image sensors and/or audio sensors. The viewers or other users, i.e., user, may later selectively view the multimedia sequence by browsing through the video indices of various categories of emotion. The video indices are similar to chapters within digital video disc (DVD) movies that enable a user to jump directly to a particular chapter without having to fast forward.

  • Publication number: 20030118329
Abstract: A method for video indexing using high resolution still images enables a user to acquire high resolution still images during a video sequence recording so that the user can selectively view the video sequence using the high resolution still images as video indices. The still images typically have higher resolution than the video sequence. By selecting the high resolution still images to capture memorable moments, the user is able to view the video sequence around the instances of the still images within the video sequence.

  • Publication number: 20030081233
Abstract: A method and an apparatus used, for example, in conjunction with a computer or similar device, provides for multi-resolution rendering of image data, where the image data includes background image data, vector data and text data, so as to accommodate memory capacities of rendering devices. The computer may send image data in a multi-resolution format from the computer to one of several rendering devices. The multi-resolution format may be achieved by frequency domain coding or generation of image swaths, or a combination thereof. The image data may first be sent in a low resolution format, and a rendering device determines, based on its memory, whether the corresponding image or text should be rendered. Next, vector data and/or text data may be supplied to the rendering device. Then, higher resolution data may be sent after the text/vector date so as to maximize memory usage of the rendering device.

  • Publication number: 20030044064
Abstract: A method and system thereof for processing image data. Uncompressed image data comprising a plurality of pixels representing an image to be rendered are received. The pixels are grouped into blocks such that the pixels in a block have substantially the same color values. The image data including the blocks of pixels are compressed and the compressed data are used as the basis for generating a rendered image. The maximum number of pixels per block is dependent on the resolution at which the image may be rendered; at higher resolutions, more pixels are included in a block than at lower resolutions. However, the maximum physical dimensions of rendered blocks in the rendered image are not changed as a function of resolution; the maximum block size in an image rendered at one resolution is the same as that at another resolution.

  • Publication number: 20030031460
Abstract: A method for video indexing using high quality audio clips enables a user to acquire high quality audio clips during an audio/video sequence recording so that the user can selectively view the audio/video sequence using the high quality audio clips as video indices. Using the high quality audio clips as video indices enables the user to easily index the audio/video sequence using the most memorable pieces of music. In addition, the most memorable pieces of music contained in the high quality audio clips can be enjoyed (viewed and listened) in high quality audio, for example, with stereo sound, high dynamic range, noise suppression, or without psycho-acoustic compression.

  • Publication number: 20030002582
Abstract: A method and an associated apparatus applies multi-resolution boundary encoding to region based still image and video encoding, allowing better error correction for low frequency transmission. High frequency bands that are less protected may be discarded, leaving only lower frequency representation. By using JSCC techniques, a receiver with low resolution capability or low channel bandwidth may still render a close approximation of a boundary despite error in transmission.

  • Publication number: 20020186383
Abstract: There is disclosed a method of generating and transmitting a multi-resolution image data file, in which successively higher resolutions of image data are sent sequentially between an image data source device, and a printer device. The printer device receives a multi-resolution image data file, and from that file prints an image at a resolution which is suitable for the amount of internal memory and/or data storage device within the printer device, and including full vector data and full text data. Using the same image data file format, the same image data file sent to a different printer device having increased memory and/or data storage capacity results in an increased resolution image data, also containing the same vector data and text data.

  • Patent number: 6137589
Abstract: Already stored uncompressed raster data are selectively compressed before any new raster data can be processed and stored. Both compressed and uncompressed raster data is preferably stored in the same size blocks, and the Raster Objects are preferably divided at Render Swath boundaries. Assuming that the Raster Object data has been or will be compressed by means of a known dither matrix, that dither matrix is used in the compression process to eliminate all but the data essential to reconstruct the dithered image, and the pixels of the original image are preferably successively processed along a predetermined scan path and the resultant linear pixel array is divided into successive runs which may each be encoded such that when those encoded runs are assembled into a replica of the original image and both the original image and the replica image are dithered with the same predetermined dither matrix, the dithered replica image is identical to the dithered original image.
