  • Publication number: 20080256824
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of heat treatment of a solid piece of wood, such as sawn timber. According to the method, the temperature difference between the inside temperature of the heating oven and, correspondingly, the inside temperature of the wood is maintained at a maximum of 10° C., after the level of moisture content of the piece of wood has reached the fibre saturation point of the wood. A small temperature difference such as this is maintained when the temperature is further increased until a level of moisture content is reached at which the strength properties of the piece of wood are at their best. By means of the solution it is possible to considerably reduce the formation of internal cracks in heat treated wood.

  • Patent number: 6884518
Abstract: A material suitable for the reconstruction of an individual's tissue, particularly supportive tissue such as bone tissue, insertable into the tissue. The material is characterized by being composed of wood heat-treated within the temperature range of 100-220° C. in the presence of water vapor. The invention also relates the use of the wood.

  • Patent number: 5685353
Abstract: The invention is related to a method and apparatus for compressive shape-drying of wood (1). In the first phase of the method, green wood is compressed to a desired shape simultaneously heating the wood. According to the invention, during the first phase the wood (1) is compressed against gas-permeable surfaces (3, 4) rapidly to a desired and thickness. during the second phase of the compression process, the compression pressure is lowered to a level causing a thickness reduction equal to or greater than the thickness reduction caused by the drying of the wood, and the internal temperature of the wood is lowered with the progress of the compression process.

  • Patent number: 5678324
Abstract: A method for improving the resistance of cellulosic products against mold and decay, as well as for enhancing the dimensionally stability of the products is disclosed. The cellulosic products are subjected to heat treatment, which is carried out at an elevated temperature. The products are obtained by drying to a moisture content of less than 15%, and keeping the resulting products in a moist atmosphere at a temperature of at least about 150.degree. C. for 2 to 10 hours until a weight loss of at least 3% has been obtained.
