Abstract: A method and system facilitate a transaction via a network-based transaction facility. For example, a pre-order relating to an item is recorded in a database; a plurality of offers to sell the item is received; and a matching operation to detect a correspondence between the pre-order and the plurality of offers is automatically performed using processor-implemented logic. The pre-order is set to a reserve state in the database based on at least one offer of the plurality of offers matching the preorder, in which the reserve state reserves the at least one offer pending establishment of a transaction for the at least one offer.

Abstract: The disclosed subject matter includes an electronic commerce platform for a user to buy and sell goods and services, as well as a social network platform for a user to socially interact with other users. The combination of these two activities enables the user to solicit information online from other users of the system prior to buying or selling a product or service. The user can also share purchase information as well as information about favorite products, services, sellers, etc. with other users. This interconnected relationship between social connections and buying and selling activities support an entire new set of information available to the community of users of the system and greatly improves their purchasing and selling decision making processes.

Following selection the pre-order option by a user and provision of the pre-order attribute information, a pre-order relating to an item is recorded at the transaction facility. The pre-order specifies a plurality of pre-order attributes. An offer to sell the item is received at the transaction facility, the offer specifying a plurality of offer attributes. A matching operation is automatically performed to detect a correspondence between the pre-order and the offer.

Abstract: This document describes, among other things, systems and methods for managing a community-editable product catalog. A method receives, by a network-based commerce system, an indication from a client computer to create a listing for a product. The method determines whether a catalog entry associated with the product exists and when the catalog entry does not exist, prompts a user to create a new catalog entry and stores either the catalog entry or the new catalog entry in the network-based commerce system.
