  • Patent number: 4365783
Abstract: Mold for making a tooth positioning and retaining appliance with air holes including a cavity having models of the upper and lower teeth arranged so that when an appliance is molded thereby the appliance will have upper and lower archways for receiving upper and lower arches of a person, tooth sockets in the archways arranged in ideal relationship and preselected positions to urge the teeth received thereby into the preselected positions of the sockets. The mold additionally includes air hole or airway forming means extending across the models of the teeth in the mold and being insertable into the mold prior to the molding operation and thereafter removable from the mold with the molded appliance. The air hole forming means is easily separable from the appliance to ultimately define the air holes between the archways and between the labial and lingual sides of the appliance.

  • Patent number: 4350487
Abstract: Lock pin for a bracket having a body with an occlusogingivally extending opening, attaching flanges on the lingual side of the body for attaching the bracket to a tooth, and an archwire slot at the gingivolingual corner of the body for receiving one or more archwires, wherein the lock pin includes a tail or shank extending lingual of an archwire or archwires in the archwire slot and with a part having a mesiodistal width that fits snugly between the attaching flanges to prevent relative rotation between the pin and the bracket and a head fitting in the archwire slot having an archwire engaging face of a length at least equal to half the mesiodistal width of the bracket such that a part of the head extends beyond one side of the bracket body so that precise mesiodistal control between the bracket and the archwire can be achieved. In an alternate form the tail is disposed buccal to the head and the archwire.

  • Patent number: 4330273
Abstract: An orthodontic appliance comprising a resilient member arranged to be positioned between the upper and lower arches and force-generating elements applying forces to at least some of the teeth of at least one of the arches. The resilient member is made over an orthodontic setup or a model having ideal arch form and includes sockets for the occlusal surfaces of the teeth of each of the arches arranged such that when the teeth seat in the sockets, they will be in the ideal or best possible occluding positions relative to each other. Any suitable type of force-generating means may be used to apply traction to one or more of the teeth of one of the arches toward the teeth of the other of the arches.

The air hole forming means is easily separable from the appliance to ultimately define the air holes between the archways and between the labial and lingual sides of the appliance. The method of making the air holes concerns the handling of the mold and the air hole forming means.
