  • Patent number: 7533690
Abstract: A multifunctional regulator provides a housing having an inlet passage joined with an outlet passage through a poppet valve. The housing has a control diaphragm separating the control chamber into a first volume and a second volume and depending on the differential pressure between the two volumes, the diaphragm will push open the poppet valve. Pressurizing and depressurizing valves join the first volume with the inlet and outlet passages, whereby, with an inlet pressure level within the inlet passage greater than an outlet pressure level within the outlet passage, and with the pressurizing valve admitting the inlet pressure level to the first volume, the diaphragm is displaced into the second volume thereby forcing the poppet valve to open and thereby raising the outlet pressure toward the inlet pressure with fluid flow from the inlet to outlet passages.

  • Patent number: 4566488
Abstract: A multi-stage pressure regulating system including a pilot-governed main pressure reducing regulator, with one or more passive back pressure regulators arranged in tandem therewith. The regulators are valves of the type conditioned to open when the upstream pressure therein overcomes a jacket pressure. The jacket in the main valve is loaded by upstream fluid, but a pilot, which monitors a particular fluid flow characteristic, such as pressure, at a selected location in the pipeline, controls bleeding of the jacket as necessary to regulate flow through the main valve so as to maintain a predetermined value or level of the characteristic being monitored. Hence, flow through the main valve is controlled solely by the pilot device, but its discharge to the ultimate downstream level is through at least one auxiliary valve, the jacket of which is loaded with a pneumatic pressure at a suitable level, so that the pressure drop to the downstream level is in two or more stages.

  • Patent number: 4412554
Abstract: An expansible tube type valve wherein a flexible tube, which is sealed around its ends in a valve body, is stretched to seal around a barrier in the flow passage. Thin rings of thermal insulation material are disposed around the ends of the flexible tube, interposed between it and parts of the valve body normally in contact therewith, so as to isolate the tube from the body and preclude transmission of high temperatures thereto, as in the event of a fire in the area.

  • Patent number: 4364410
Abstract: For use in a fluid system, which includes a control valve or the like having one port to which the higher of two pressures is delivered and another port from which fluid flows to the lower of two pressures, a four-way shuttle valve with high and low pressure ducts. Pressure level passages connected from the two pressure zones, are each connected by lateral transfer passages to both the high and low pressure ducts. One-way check valves in each of the four lateral passages enables flow only to the high pressure port and from the low pressure port. In the event of pressure reversal, the check valves will shift so that flow is always from the high pressure line to the high pressure duct of the shuttle valve.

  • Patent number: 4333496
Abstract: A liquid pipeline surge reliever system wherein a main surge relief valve of the expansible tube type is connected into a diverter line from the pipeline. The valve opens when pressure in the diverter line exceeds a jacket control pressure. The jacket is evacuated through a bleed valve, which may be a smaller expansible tube valve but with enough capacity to very rapid evacuation of the main valve jacket. Gas pressure from a suitable source is connected to the main valve jacket whieh, in turn, is connected to both the jacket and the inlet of the bleed valve. Pressure of pipeline liquid in a sensing line opens a pilot valve through which the jacket of the bleed valve is exhausted should the pipeline pressure reach a predetermined surge level. Pipeline pressure at that surge level also closes an on-off valve in the gas supply line while the surge is being relieved.
