  • Patent number: 8547481
Abstract: This invention is a preprocessor apparatus and method algorithm facilitating black bar detection in video frames or fields. The preprocessing marks a sharp discontinuity between pixels a predetermined distance apart on each line. On first detection of this discontinuity the location and pixel value is stored. The location and pixel value is also stored for the last discontinuity in the line. This data enables software to detect top horizontal bars, bottom horizontal bars, left vertical bars and right vertical bars.

  • Patent number: 8431872
Abstract: A countertop cooking device such as a slow cooker or rice cooker which operates to initially reach a heat within the cooking cavity sufficient for sauteeing or braising food. A microprocessor communicating with a temperature sensor monitors the cooking cavity in order to sense drops in temperature. When a sudden drop in temperature occurs due to the addition of liquid to the cooking cavity, the device is caused to drop to a lower cooking temperature appropriate for boiling, simmering, or maintaining food warmth.

  • Patent number: 8405132
Abstract: A transistor structure includes a semiconductor substrate with a first surface, a diffusion region at the first surface of the substrate, a sacrificial gate formed on the diffusion region, and insulating side walls formed adjacent to the sacrificial gate. A metal gate is formed by etching out the sacrificial gate and filling in the space between the insulating side walls with gate metals. Silicided source and drain contacts are formed over the diffusion region between the side walls of two adjacent aluminum gates. One or more oxide layers are formed over the substrate. Vias are formed in the oxide layers by plasma etching to expose the silicided source and drain contacts, which simultaneously oxidizes the aluminum gate metal. A first metal is selectively formed over the silicided contact by electroless deposition, but does not deposit on the oxidized aluminum gate.

  • Patent number: 8081783
Abstract: A technique using a new diaphragm structure and support design is provided herein for microphones or structure designs for pressure sensing. The structure includes a set of capacitive structures. The capacitive structure has a combination of a diaphragm structure, a back plate structure and a surrounding micro-structure for fixing the diaphragm. After the diaphragm structure has deformed due to a pressure load, a gap between the back plate and the diaphragm is changed accordingly, and variation occurs in the capacitance value between the two parallel plates. By using the principle of the effect of capacitance value variation, the capacitive sensor causes the capacitance value to vary with the change in the sound, thus accomplishing the object of measuring.

  • Patent number: 8022345
Abstract: An adaptive optics system comprises a spatial light modulator, a beamsplitter, a pixelated spatial phase shifter, a beam combiner, an imaging device, and a processor. The spatial light modulator can modulate an incoming beam with an aberrated wavefront. The beamsplitter can receive the modulated beam and divide the modulated beam into a first beam and a second beam. The pixelated spatial phase shifter can spatially phase shift the second beam by at least two phases. The beam combiner can interfere the spatially phase shifted second beam with the first beam to form at least two interferograms on the imaging device, which can capture an image of the at least two interferograms in a single frame. The processor can determine the aberrated wavefront based on the at least two interferograms and provide one or more control signals to the spatial light modulator to mitigate aberrations in the aberrated wavefront.
