  • Publication number: 20070058118
Abstract: The present invention provides for improved image quality in bendable liquid crystal displays (400). In such displays the liquid crystal layer (401) is contained in a cell gap having a thickness which decreases when the display is bent. For displays based on swithcable retardation, such as TN (Twisted Nematic) or STN (Super Twisted Nematic) displays, this has as a consequence that the cell retardation value decreases, such that optical properties as colour, contrast and viewing angle become less good.

  • Publication number: 20070019150
Abstract: Using lithographic spacers (6) and seals (12) in e.g. LCD a first adhesion of the substrates (2,3) is obtained by incomplete solidifying (both physical or chemical) of the resin used for the spacers and/or the polyimide used for the seal. Final solidifying of the spacers may take place during solidifying of the seal afterwards or simultaneously.

  • Publication number: 20060192905
Abstract: This invention relates to a display device comprising at least a first substrate (4), forming part of a display area (2), and at least one electrically controlled input device (3). According to the invention a first conductor pattern (8) for driving said display area (2) and a second conductor pattern (9) for tansmitting signals from said electrically controlled input 5 device (3) are arranged on said first substrate. The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing such a display device.

  • Publication number: 20060109391
Abstract: A gray level compensation mechanism is proposed for flexible displays. Flexible displays exhibit cell gap variations upon bending. The cell gap is measured during operation of the display (capacitive, poezoelectric). The pixel voltage is adjusted according to the measured cell gap. This results in a gray level that is independent of the local bending radius.

  • Publication number: 20060098153
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of manufacturing a curved flat panel display device, comprising the step of adhering, at least a first film (1, 11) to the surface of a second film (2, 12), in such a way that the films (1, 11; 2, 12) are held in a curved shape by means of the adhesion between the films (1, 11; 2, 12). The invention also relates to a curved flat panel display device, comprising at least a first and a second film, characterised in that the first and second films are adhered to each other, whereby the adhesion between said films is arranged to hold the display device in a curved shape.

  • Publication number: 20060071919
Abstract: A system comprises a display (1) with a substrate (16) and a carrier (2). The display (1) comprises pixels (11) and display conductors (12) which supply display signals (DS) to the pixels (11). The carrier (2) comprises carrier conductors (20) for carrying input signals (IS). The display conductors (12) and the carrier conductors (20) are positioned with respect to each other to obtain capacitors (C) between corresponding ones of the display conductors (12) and the carrier conductors (20) to capacitively transfer the input signals (IS) on the carrier conductors (20) to the display conductors (12).
