  • Patent number: 4878343
Abstract: A composite reinforcing rope is made of a cylindrical core of twisted filaments of aromatic polyamides around which a plurality of steel wires of a rectangular configuration are coiled. The steel wires are wound side-by-side in one layer. Each wire is twisted around its own axis to such a degree that its broader side fully engages the periphery of the polyamide core. The edges of respective wires are rounded whereby the convex narrow dides of adjoining wires contact one another substantially along a line.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 27, 1988
Date of Patent: November 7, 1989
Assignee: AKZO BM Arnhem, The Netherlands
Inventors: Wolfgang Weidenhaupt, Gunther Wepner, Peter Dismon, Mattheus G. Remijn
  • Patent number: 4807680
Abstract: A pneumatic tire includes a composite rope made of a cylindrical core of twisted filaments of aromatic polyamides around which a plurality of steel wires of a rectangular configuration are coiled. The steel wires are wound side-by-side in one layer. Each wire is twisted around its own axis to such a degree that its broader side fully engages the periphery of the polyamide core. The edges of respective wires are rounded whereby the convex narrow sides of adjoining wires contact one another substantially along a line.

  • Patent number: 4679387
Abstract: A reinforcing cord made of several steel wires includes a metal wrapping wire coiled around steel wires. The hardness of the wrapping wire is substantially less than the hardness of the steel wires. Preferably the wrapping wire is a flat wire whose longer side engages the cord.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4606392
Abstract: A reinforcing cord for use in radial tires, conveyor belts, hoses or driving belts, includes at least one strand of metal wires twisted along the longitudinal axis of the strand. Each metal wire has a substantially rectangular cross-section defining two opposite broad sides. The wires in the strand engage one another along their broad sides and preferably are wrapped around by a wrapping wire.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4601165
Abstract: A reinforcing cord for elastomeric products is produced by feeding a plurality of single metal wires of the same diameter into a set of successively arranged stranding points. At least two wires are fed into the first stranding point and through the subsequent stranding points. Additional wires are fed into the respective subsequent stranding points. The quantity of wires fed to the stranding points is determined by the number of valleys which are present in the peripheral contour of the processed strand at this particular stranding point. In this manner each additional wire is brought in contact with at least two preceding wires in the processed strand.
