  • Patent number: 5429374
Abstract: A dynamic hydraulic seal located in a gland or recess that is selectively pressurized and vented includes outer lips forced by hydraulic pressure into contact with the surfaces of the recess, inner lips forced by hydraulic pressure into sealing contact with a rotating member, and a web extending across the recess and formed with multiple holes through its thickness which serve as a passage for the hydraulic pressure through the seal to an hydraulic passage, which carries hydraulic fluid to journal or bearing surfaces that require lubrication. In the unpressurized free-state, the seal is retracted from contact with the dynamic surface and the web assumes an arcuate shape that closes the hole through its thickness. When pressurized, the seal deforms, the webs flatten, the hole is opened and the inner lips are forced by the hydraulic pressure into contact with the dynamic surface.

  • Patent number: 4876920
Abstract: An infinitely variable transmission having a driving sheave assembly connected to the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine and coaxially mounted with respect to the crankshaft, an intermediate shaft upon which is mounted a driven pulley assembly, a drive chain or belt drivably connected the pulley assemblies, high range and low range gearing coaxially disposed with respect to the driven pulley assembly, a countershaft arranged in parallel and spaced disposition with respect to the secondary shaft wherein the countershaft is adapted to support forward and reverse gearing and improved bearing means for supporting the countershaft and wherein a differential output assembly connects torque output elements of the countershaft to each of two axle half shafts thus providing improved torque transmitting capacity with reduced overall dimensions due to reduced shaft spacing.

  • Patent number: 4438663
Abstract: A planetary gear arrangement for an automatic power transmission mechanism in an automotive driveline having rearward traction wheels and a forward engine wherein axial loads developed on the gearing due to thrust forces resulting from displacement of the rear vehicle suspension while the vehicle is accelerating or when it is operated over a rough road bed are transmitted directly to the case as the torque transmitting elements of the gearing are isolated from these thrust forces, and wherein provision is made for preloading thrust bearings in the gearing to accommodate axial displacement of the torque output shaft with respect to the other torque transmission elements of the gearing when the suspension is deflected and the geometry of the driveshaft and suspension system changes while the vehicle is operating under torque.
