  • Patent number: 6457841
Abstract: A flashlight is disclosed having a body and a flashlight head in which a light bulb is mounted. The body includes a housing that defines a battery compartment, a pair of arms extending from a front end of the housing for mounting the flashlight head between opposing ends of the arms such that the flashlight head may be pivoted relative to the body, and a thumb wheel rotatably mounted in the housing and extending partially through the housing to engage the flashlight head such that the flashlight head pivots relative to the body as the thumb wheel is rotated. The thumb wheel may include gear teeth about its perimeter for engaging gear teeth formed in the round rear surface of the flashlight head.

  • Publication number: 20020036902
Abstract: The inventive portable lighting device has a substantial portion thereof constructed of one or more fabric materials. The use of a fabric housing allows for additional functionality through the use of flexible storage space integrated into the devices, thereby yielding unique functionality and aesthetics. Various sized lighting devices can be designed by combining soft and hard materials (i.e., plastic, metal, fabric, rubber, foam, etc.) that allow for the addition of other objects to be securely and comfortably attached to, or carried in, the lighting device. The use of fabric also provides unique access to the batteries and bulb of the flashlight. The result of using fabric in a lighting device provides for a product family constructed of various materials that allow for flexible yet integrated looking and feeling storage solutions.

  • Patent number: 6231208
Abstract: A portable lighting device according to the present invention includes a battery housing, a light source supported at a first end of the battery housing, and a shroud extending outward from the first end of the battery housing circumferentially around the light source. The shroud is preferably formed of a translucent material having a partially reflective inner surface for reflecting a portion of incident light emitted from the light source in a forward direction while allowing a portion of the incident light to be transmitted through the shroud and dispersed in peripheral directions. The shroud further preferably includes a diffusing outer surface for diffusing the incident light that is transmitted through the shroud. A shroud is preferably integrally formed with a collar portion as used for threading the integrated head structure onto the battery housing. Additionally, a protective lens cover that may include a collimating lens is also integrally formed in this head structure.
