    Abstract: Disclosed are a method and apparatus for collecting network data from a computer network. Control structures are created for groups of data to be collected. The control structures are then associated with corresponding tables for storing the data. Different control structures and extract functions are defined depending upon which data is to be collected, and the form in which the data is to be presented. These control structures and extract functions are then employed to avoid redundant data gathering efforts.
