Publication number: 20240154794Abstract: A framework for authenticating firewall and encryption devices (FEDs) as endpoints of a secure tunnel using quantum-based secrets keys are provided. The secure tunnel is between two network sites. A quantum key distribution (QKD) subsystem is collocated, in part, with a first network site in another part, with a second network site. The QKD subsystem generates and shares at least one quantum-based secret key with respective key hosts in the first network site and second network site. Each FED obtains the same quantum-based secret key from the respective key host and authenticate each other as endpoints of the secure tunnel to be established between the first network site and the second network site through the public network. The authentication may be repeated.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 3, 2023Publication date: May 9, 2024Inventors: Nageswara S. V. RAO, Muneer ALSHOWKAN, Anees AL-NAJJAR, Susan E. HICKS, Philip G. Patent number: 8980173Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for monitoring and controlling a real-time oxidation-reduction potential in a hot water system to inhibit corrosion in the hot water system. The method includes defining one or more operational protective zones in the hot water system. One or more of the operational protective zones includes an oxidation-reduction potential probe that is operable to measure a real-time oxidation-reduction potential in the hot water system at operating temperature and pressure. The probe transmits the measured real-time potential to the controller, which assesses and interprets the transmitted potential to determine whether it conforms to an oxidation-reduction potential setting. If the measured potential does not conform the oxidation-reduction potential setting, the controller is operable to feed or remove one or more active chemical species into or from the hot water system and further operable to change at least one system parameter.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2013Date of Patent: March 17, 2015Assignee: Nalco CompanyInventors: Jeffrey V. Patent number: 8826719Abstract: A calibration artifact includes an elongated body made substantially entirely of ceramic material and having a direction of elongation. A plurality of measurement elements comprising the ceramic material are integrally formed with the elongated body, each measurement element comprising a first planar measurement surface facing in a first direction. The first planar measurement surface of each measurement element is parallel to the first planar measurement surface of each of the other measurement elements of the plurality of measurement elements. The calibration artifact may be a unitary step gauge formed with a single piece of ceramic material.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2011Date of Patent: September 9, 2014Assignee: Hexagon Metrology, Inc.Inventors: Wilhelmus Weekers, John Langlais, David Harvey, Peter Hicks

Publication number: 20140180620Abstract: A first artifact for use in calibrating a machine-vision coordinate measurement machine includes a body with two targets at opposing ends of the body. The targets are separated by a fixed distance, and are visible to and recognizable by a camera in the coordinate measurement machine. The machine is configured to sequentially move the camera to locations above each target, and record each such camera position. As such, the artifact is useful in assessing the accuracy and calibration of the machine.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2013Publication date: June 26, 2014Applicant: Hexagon Metrology, Inc.Inventor: Peter Hicks

Patent number: 7712224Abstract: Validating the error map of a CMM using a calibrated probe including a stylus, the probe capable of rotation about at least one axis, includes placing a calibration artifact on a table of the CMM, the table having an upper surface in an XY plane; positioning a Z-ram of the CMM in a first calibration position and a second calibration position with respect to the artifact such that the stylus contacts the artifact; calculating a measured value representing the measured length between the first and second calibration positions; calculating a nominal value based on the length of the stylus of the probe; comparing the nominal value to the measured value; and updating the error map of the CMM if the measured value differs from the nominal value by more than a predetermined value. The probe and/or the stylus moves relative to the Z-ram such that the calibration artifact remains stationary while the Z-ram is positioned in the first calibration position and the second calibration position.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2007Date of Patent: May 11, 2010Assignee: Hexagon Metrology ABInventor: Peter Hicks

Publication number: 20050201302Abstract: A method and system for managing the routing of traffic within a network develops a topological address space map of the network to enable a “best route” selection process. The network is comprised of a backbone connected to a plurality of peering partners. Points on the network monitor traffic flows. A central facility analyzes the traffic flows and routes within the network and performs intelligent routing management. Intelligent routing management ensures that traffic is properly routed through preferred routes on the network, and avoids inefficient routing. Intelligent routing management also selects new routes to be injected into the network in order to further improve the accuracy of the address space map of the network. Intelligent routing management ensures that bandwidth is requested and delivered topologically closely to peering partner networks, and that traffic is carried by the backbone for long haul data distribution in both directions.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 18, 2005Publication date: September 15, 2005Inventors: Michael Gaddis, Peter Hicks, David Barmann, Steven Nunes
