Patent number: 7780577Abstract: In accordance with the principles of the present invention, a pendulous exercise device is provided that comprises first and second swing arms pivotally coupled to a frame. The first and second swing arms extend from the frame at an angle from vertical. First and second footpads are provided pivotally coupled to the first and second swing arms, respectively. Each footpad defines a footpath comprising a forward/rearward component, an upward/downward component and an inward/outward component.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2006Date of Patent: August 24, 2010Assignee: Precor IncorporatedInventor: Peter J. Patent number: 7691034Abstract: An elliptical exercise device includes a frame having a first pivot axis and a longitudinal axis, at least one foot link and at least one swing arm. The foot link is coupled to the frame and is constrained to move in an orbital path approximately parallel to the longitudinal axis. The swing arm is also coupled to the frame and has a reciprocating movement whereby a natural “stride” movement of the arm of a user is replicated. The swing arm operates independently from the foot link. The natural “stride” movement of the arm of the user grasping the arm link follows a generally concave motion relative to the ground. The length of the movement of the arm of the user is defined by the user. A different resistive load can be applied on the arm apparatus than on the foot links.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2005Date of Patent: April 6, 2010Assignee: Precor IncorporatedInventors: Gregory B. May, James S. Birrell, Peter J. Arnold, Thomas H. Moran, Phillip S. Lamb

Patent number: 7374522Abstract: In accordance with the principles of the present invention an exercise device is provided that comprises an oscillating platform and a support platform. The oscillating platform is connected to the support platform by a support having a main axis and an oscillating platform axis extending at an angle from the main axis, such that the oscillating platform defines a plane that is non-parallel to a plane defined by the support platform. An oscillating platform stabilizer enables the free angular undulating movement of the oscillating platform. Inertia or momentum of the angular movement of the platform is provided, thereby providing a fluid and continuous change in the angular orientation of the platform.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2005Date of Patent: May 20, 2008Assignee: Precor IncorporatedInventor: Peter J. Patent number: 7090623Abstract: An exercise apparatus (100) for performing press exercises is disclosed. The exercise apparatus includes a frame (102) and a support assembly (118) adjustably coupled to the frame. A first press arm (108) is coupled to the support assembly and is pivotal about a first pivot axis (140A) between a rest position and an extended position. An adjustment mechanism (152) is coupled to the support assembly and adapted to selectively adjust the support assembly between a first position, wherein when the first press arm is rotated about the first pivot axis a preselected angle, a distal end (304A) of the first press arm scribes a first predetermined path (300A), and a second position, wherein when the first press arm is rotated about the first pivot axis the preselected angle, the distal end scribes a second predetermined path (302A).Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2003Date of Patent: August 15, 2006Assignee: Precor IncorporatedInventors: Jonathan M. Stewart, Philip S. Lamb, Peter J. Arnold

Patent number: 6079669Abstract: A dual pivot expandable lavatory for use in limited spaces such as on an airplane. The lavatory may be positioned proximate the doorway area of the airplane, and is provided with a primary and a secondary pivotable module. Each module is pivotably attached to a stationary assembly conventionally affixed to the ceiling and floor of the airplane. During take-off and landing both modules are locked, by means of a locking system, in a stowed position within the stationary assembly. During routine flight, the locking system is unlocked and both modules are pivoted into a deployed position within the doorway area. A flight attendant's seat may be affixed to the exterior of the primary module. If the seat is used, an additional support foot is affixed to the primary module to accommodate the additional loading on the lavatory.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1997Date of Patent: June 27, 2000Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: James J. Hanay, Richard J. Laconte, Allan B. Lewis, William C. Quan, Peter J. Arnold

Patent number: 6007025Abstract: A stowable module, i.e., a storage container, that provides storage space in the airplane without occupying revenue floorspace. The stowable module comprises an integrated feature of a sidewall lavatory. The stowable module stows inside a sidewall lavatory during ground, takeoff, and landing operations. During flight, the stowable module is deployed by a flight attendant into an adjacent doorway area so that the lavatory can be used by passengers and crew.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1996Date of Patent: December 28, 1999Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Brian D. Coughren, James D. Callahan, Michael I. Ruby, Bryan R. Dressler, Peter J. Arnold, Craig A. Auestad

Patent number: 5284379Abstract: An improved convertible aircraft seating arrangement that is adapted to convert a row of seven economy class seats into a row of six business class seats, and vice versa. A pair of outboard seats (12, 20) are positioned on opposite sides of the passenger cabin (16), and a central set of seats (18) is positioned in between. In the economy class configuration, the central set consists of three seats (36, 38, 48), but is converted to two seats for the business class configuration. When making the conversion, the outboard pairs (12, 20) are slid inwardly a certain distance, and their inboard armrests (32) are extended further into the aisleway (22, 24) on each side of the central set (18). The outer, aisle seats (36, 38) against the centermost seat (48). There, they are joined to lateral sections of the centermost seat (78a, 78b), which are split apart from such seat to form wider, business class seats.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1991Date of Patent: February 8, 1994Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Peter J. Arnold, Lek H. Thixton

Patent number: 5178345Abstract: An aircraft seat assembly (14) is convertible between three seats (LA, LM, LW) with a first seat width and two seats (LA, W) with a second wider seat width. The seat assembly includes a tube-in-tube support frame for the seats which allows the conversion to be accomplished by a simple sliding movement of the aisle and middle seat frames towards and away from the window seat frame which is fixed in position. Movement of the aisle and middle seat frames automatically changes the position of the two inside armrests (22, 24). The middle seat back frame (66) is vertically split into parts (66A, 66B). Movement of the seat frames from the three-seat configuration to the two-seat configuration disconnects seat back parts (66A, 66B) from each other and locks one part (66A) to the window seat back frame (64) and the other part (66B) to the aisle seat back frame (68).Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1991Date of Patent: January 12, 1993Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Wallace A. Peltola, Peter J. Arnold

Patent number: 5131607Abstract: An aircraft seat assembly (12) is convertible between a first, narrower configuration of three seats (RA, RN, RW) and a second, widened seat configuration which adds an even increase in space between armrests (18, 22, 24). A seat assembly (12) includes a tube-in-tube support frame for the seats which allows the conversion to be accomplished by a simple sliding movement of the aisle and middle seat frames (RA, RM) toward and away from the window seat frame (RW) which is fixed in position. Movement of the aisle and middle seat frames (RA, RM) automatically centers the middle seat frame (RM) between the aisle and window seat frames (RA, RW) and automatically changes the position of the two inside armrests (22, 24) to provide even spacing therebetween. A lock mechanism (124, 130) locks the seat frame parts together, both in the first, narrower configuration and in the second, widened configuration.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1991Date of Patent: July 21, 1992Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Peter J. Arnold, Wallace A. Peltola
