  • Patent number: 11913697
Abstract: A pneumatic cryocooler using a pneumatic motor for use in cryogenically cooling superconductors, which pneumatic cryocooler is capable of operation in strong magnetic fields.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 29, 2020
Date of Patent: February 27, 2024
Assignee: The United States of America, as represented by the Secretary of the Navy
Inventors: Peter J. Ferrara, Jacob T. Kephart, Avi Friedman
  • Patent number: 7921638
Abstract: A bi-propellant rocket motor having controlled thermal management is disclosed. The rocket motor produces thrust using a solid or gel-phase primary propellant that can be either fuel- or oxidizer-rich, with a complementary self-pressurizing secondary propellant selected to balance the primary propellant in terms of the equivalence ratio. The motor houses multiple propellant grains arranged in such a configuration that each chamber containing a primary grain serves as both propellant storage and the main combustion chamber for that propellant grain as it burns with the secondary propellant. The secondary propellant is stored separately, and the flow routed past the primary propellant chamber to provide cooling for adjacent primary propellant chambers limiting the temperature rise in the motor structure.

  • Patent number: 6703547
Abstract: An improved tuning peg construction 10 for applying selective tension on a string 101 of a musical instrument 100 wherein the construction includes a tuning peg member 20 having a threaded shaft 21 adapted to engage the toothed gear 103 on a tuning peg 102 attached to one of the string 101 of a musical instrument; wherein, the outboard end of the tuning peg member 20 is provided with a contoured post 20 that is received in a reciprocating fashion in a contoured recess 34 formed in a tuning knob member 30 which is normally spring biased into a free-wheeling spaced relationship with the tuning peg member 20 until such time as the musician desires to change the tension on the string 101 of the instrument 100.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 12, 2001
Date of Patent: March 9, 2004

  • Patent number: 5063079
Abstract: An improved wheat germ having longer shelf life by reason of its having been steamed under conditions sufficient to remove sulfhydril therefrom including venting about 0.2 to 0.4 pounds of steam condensate per pound of treated wheat germ during the steaming operation.

  • Patent number: 4759934
Abstract: A technique for producing baked products, such as bread with very high protein levels, up to about 45% on a dry basis (18 to 25% on a wet basis), by incorporating in the unrisen dough the desired high protein levels, large amounts of ascorbic acid, e.g. 450 to 850 PPM and small amounts of potassium bromate; and steam treating the full fat wheat germ and soy flakes to remove sulfhydril as measured by the absence of glutathione; and then rising and baking to produce a product of good taste, shelf life and density comparable to what would have been produced in the absence of the high protein levels.

  • Patent number: 4582626
Abstract: A hard, solid, milled cleaning material having improved slippery feel comprising a normally solid cleansing material and incorporated therein at least about 10% bath oil/emollient which was incorporated into a hot liquid precursor of said normally solid cleansing material and sufficient slip agent to improve the processability of said material and to improve the slippery feel thereof but insufficient to cause said material to be slimey, said proportion being about 0.2% to at least about 1% by weight.

  • Patent number: 3943000
Abstract: The further modification of acid modified flours and starches by reacting such acid modified flours, at a pH of less than about 3.0 with an alkylene oxide, preferably ethylene oxide, in order to scavenge residual acidity, raise the pH of the product and partially crosslink it. The thus created new crosslinked product is useful in gypsum wall board core binders and other applications.

  • Patent number: 3941712
Abstract: Solid soap such as framed or milled toilet soap, which is conventional in all aspects except that it contains as part of its composition 5 to 100 percent, based upon the weight of free fatty acid components, of at least one "bath oil." The solid soap composition is produced by first saponifying an appropriate fatty acid or mixture thereof in the usual way, solidifying the saponified material by cooling, extruding ribbons of solidified material, drying the extrudate, and then framing the dried extrudate into soap bars. The process hereof differs from this "usual" process in that bath oil, in whatever quantity is desired, is added to the liquid saponification mixture, rather than just prior to the framing step as in the prior art.
