Patent number: 8625498Abstract: Allocations for access in a wireless system may be tiled onto a subframe having a first dimension and a second dimension. In an exemplary embodiment, allocations are distributed along the first dimension while the second dimension is locked, and the allocations are distributed along the second dimension while the first dimension is locked. In another exemplary embodiment, allocations are striped by extending a length of a first allocation along the first dimension and by expanding a breadth of the first allocation along the second dimension responsive to a size of the first allocation and by extending a length of a second allocation along the second dimension and expanding a breadth of the second allocation along the first dimension responsive to a size of the second allocation. In yet another exemplary embodiment, multiple allocations are placed proximately to an allocation placement target and allocation-free areas are produced on a subframe.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2007Date of Patent: January 7, 2014Assignee: WI-LAN, Inc.Inventors: Yair Bourlas, Peter J. Graumann, Sina Zahedi, Ron Porat

Patent number: 8594135Abstract: The subject matter disclosed herein provides methods and apparatus, including computer program products, for detecting a preamble to enable acquisition of a downlink. In one aspect, there is provided a method. The method may include receiving a plurality of symbols. From an autocorrelation of the received symbols, a guard interval may be detected. The guard interval may represent a receive/transmit transition gap (RTG). A metric may be used to verify whether at least one symbol positioned after the detected guard interval is a preamble. Related systems, apparatus, methods, and/or articles are also described.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2011Date of Patent: November 26, 2013Assignee: Wi-Lan, Inc.Inventors: Ron Porat, Yu Wen, Peter J. Graumann, Srikanth Gummadi

Patent number: 8509073Abstract: An error management system and process can be used to identify an erroneous data packet in a data stream. In response to identifying the erroneous data packet, a subsequent valid data packet is located in the data stream. In one embodiment, a plurality of candidate locations of header checksum windows are searched and checked for a valid checksum. Multiple integrity checks of multiple header checksums can be used to reduce the probability of a false positive integrity check. In another embodiment, one or more information data fields can used for determining packet integrity by determining if the fields contain valid information bits.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2011Date of Patent: August 13, 2013Assignee: Wi-Lan, Inc.Inventors: Yair Bourlas, Brian D. Petry, Peter J. Graumann, Kripps Asirvatham, Doraid Y. Sadiq, Karle J. Johnson, Kenneth L. Stanwood

Patent number: 8196024Abstract: The subject matter disclosed herein provides methods and systems for converting fixed-point soft bit values, provided by a demapper, into floating-point soft bits values. In one aspect, there is provided a method. The method may include receiving, from a demapper, soft bits formatted as a fixed-point value. Moreover, the soft bits may be converted from the fixed-point value to a floating-point value. The floating-point value is punctured to remove a bit. The converted soft bits are provided to a buffer to enable decoding of the buffered soft bits. Related systems, apparatus, methods, and/or articles are also described.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2008Date of Patent: June 5, 2012Assignee: Wi-LAN Inc.Inventors: Kirupairaj Asirvatham, Peifang Zhang, Siavash Sheikh Zeinoddin, Peter J. Graumann
