  • Publication number: 20150308151
Abstract: A low profile actuating window lock for casement windows having a handle actuate a lifter that slides vertically on a fork component in slidable communication with the window lock casing, the handle pivotable about the lifter and pivotable about a restrictor arm that pivots relative to the casing, allowing the handle to rotate fully from the locked position to the unlocked position with low clearance from the window frame. The pivot points of the handle, lifter, restrictor arm configuration allow for an over center linkage that prevents back driving the casement window lock.

  • Publication number: 20150191956
Abstract: A worm gear drive operator having immovable flat thrust bearing surfaces at each end of a worm gear drive for absorbing thrust forces and keeping direct mechanical rotational forces away from the cover plate and housing base during rotation of the worm gear drive. The worm gear drive operator assembly is capable of vertical adjustment of the actuator arm while providing thrust support. A threaded post about which rests a bearing for the actuator arm, and is secured in place by an adjustment screw received within a threaded post on the cover plate.

  • Patent number: 9062487
Abstract: A child safety device for a casement window includes a handle-driven gear reduction assembly having a sensor gear driven at a reduced speed relative to the handle, a sensor arm driven by the sensor gear of the gear reduction assembly and a slider movable between a stop position where rotation of the handle is prevented and a retracted position where rotation is allowed. A spring biases the slider towards the stop position. The slider is held in the retracted position by a catch and is released by the sensor arm to prevent further opening of the window when the sensor gear reaches a predetermined location. The safety device resets when the window is closed and can be overridden to allow full opening of the window by an adult. In the preferred design, the child safety device is a cover that can replace the cover of an existing casement window operator.

  • Patent number: 8876178
Abstract: A door handle for a sliding door having a handle and a handle base having a pair of opposed arms. The arms are provided with corresponding clips, each clip having an opening that receives a corresponding pivot pin. The handle pivots between the arms on the pivot pins. The pins are axially aligned and slidably installed in the clips for sliding motion to extend towards and retract away from each other, into and out of engagement with the handle. With the pins extended, they engage the handle, preferably with each pin engaging a corresponding insert in each end of the handle. With the pins retracted, the handle may be removed from between the arms of the handle base. The pins are preferably held in the extended position with corresponding wedges that snap into the corresponding clips behind the pins.

  • Publication number: 20090066094
Abstract: A roller pin of the type mounted on a tie bar that slides to drive the roller pin into engagement with a keeper of a casement window includes an inner pin and an outer roller. The outer roller includes an integral outer flange that is circular and spins with the outer roller to reduce friction during engagement with keeper. The inner pin includes an offset mounting pin at one end and is enlarged at the other end to hold the outer roller on the inner pin. The enlarged end of the inner pin is flush with the outer flange and is provided with a recessed opening that receives a tool, such as a screwdriver, to rotate the inner pin and adjust its position relative to the tie bar and a keeper. The invention is also directed to a tie bar and multiple roller pins in combination.

  • Patent number: 6651389
Abstract: An improved casement window is provided which includes a tie bar and at least two tie bar guides through which the tie bar slidably extends. The tie bar guides are secured to a window frame which includes an elongated groove that extends parallel to the tie bar. Each tie bar guide includes at least one locating leg that extends outward from the tie bar guide body and that is received in the groove of the window frame to assist in the easy location of the tie bar guide and tie bar along the window frame. Further, each tie bar guide may be equipped with a protruding nib that is received in an aperture disposed in the tie bar. The cooperation of the tie bar guide and the aperture of the tie bar ensures that the tie bar guide is properly spaced along the length of the tie bar. The nib is sheared off of the tie bar guide after the tie bar guide is secured to the window frame and the tie bar is moved axially through the guide.

  • Patent number: 6425611
Abstract: A lock handle assembly for a casement window is provided. The lock handle assembly includes an escutcheon that includes an inner side and an outer side. The escutcheon is securable to the frame inside a cavity with at least a portion of the inner side of the escutcheon being disposed at the inside surface of the frame. The escutcheon also includes an upper wall and a lower wall with an elongated recess disposed therebetween for receiving a handle and defining the limits of rotation of the handle. The handle extends into the recess and is connected to a drive disk. The drive disk is pivotally connected to a fixed gear plate thereby providing a rotational axis for the handle. The fixed gear plate is secured to an inside surface of the frame. The fixed gear plate includes an arcuate gear segment.

  • Patent number: 6354639
Abstract: A lock handle assembly for a multi-point casement window is disclosed. The lock handle assembly includes an escutcheon for mounting to the inside surface of the frame. The escutcheon includes an elongated body which features an inner side facing away from the inside surface of the frame and an outer side that extends through the inside surface of the frame. The escutcheon further includes an elongated slot for receiving a handle through the inner side of the escutcheon. The slot comprises an upper end and a lower end defined by upper and lower walls respectively. The handle is pivotally connected to the escutcheon by a shaft having an axis that extends transversely through the slot. The shaft further connects a movable link to the handle. The shaft also passes through a fixed gear which is secured to the escutcheon. The fixed gear includes an arcuate gear. The movable link includes a proximal end pivotally connected to the shaft in a distal end pivotally connected to a drive gear link.
