  • Patent number: 8996984
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for automatic visual preview of non-visual data. A visual preview of non-visual data is generated by obtaining the non-visual data; obtaining metadata describing one or more semantic data types in the obtained non-visual data; selecting one or more visual metaphors for the obtained non-visual data based on the metadata; and generating the visual preview of the non-visual data using the one or more selected visual metaphors. As used herein, non-visual data does not have an established automatic method for generating a preview of the non-visual data. A user can optionally interact with the visual preview.

  • Publication number: 20100205238
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for intelligent exploratory visualization and analysis. A semantics-based client-server application architecture is provided that enables interactive visualization and analysis applications over the web. From the client perspective, user activities are observed and the client determines if a sequence of user activities comprises one or more predefined semantics-based user actions. Semantics-based action descriptor are then sent to the server, optionally with any related parameters, and a response is then received from the server. From the server perspective, one or more semantics-based action descriptors are received from the client with an action type selected from a predefined set of types, wherein the semantics-based action descriptors are based on a sequence of activities of a user. The server processes the semantics-based action descriptors and sends a response to the client in response to the one or more semantics-based action descriptors.

  • Patent number: 7743373
Abstract: A method and apparatus enhancing software catalog manageability, providing abstract software configuration, and desired state management. A first mechanism enhances software catalog manageability. The first mechanism includes a software model that separates metadata of software from actual binaries of the software. A second mechanism abstracts software configuration for automation. The second mechanism includes a hierarchical software resource template structure that specifies parameters, dependencies between parameters, features, options, and parameters that cannot be predefined. A third mechanism provides for desired state management and patch compliance assessments. The third mechanism checks against a server template or software resource in a data center model against what is installed on actual machines to determine compliance.

  • Publication number: 20090132506
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for integrating a visual query interface and a natural language interface. The disclosed interface embeds a first of the visual query interface and the natural language interface into a second of the visual query interface and the natural language interface. The disclosed interface can also receives one or more natural language expressions in the natural language interface and one or more visual query expressions in the visual query interface in a same search turn. The disclosed interface can also receive a first query comprised of a first of a natural language query and a visual query; process the first query; and creates a substantially equivalent query to the first query in a second of the natural language query and the visual query The disclosed interface can process a natural language query to determine if a portion of the natural language query is not understood; and convert at least a portion of the natural language query to a visual query.

  • Patent number: 7522164
Abstract: The aspects of the present invention provide for a computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer usable program code for adding a new virtual object into a virtual scene having at least one existing virtual object. An exemplary computer-implemented method includes calculating the dimensions for each cell in a matrix that defines the virtual scene. The dimensions used to fit a largest retained virtual object are propagated along all dimensions of the matrix, wherein the largest retained virtual object is a virtual object selected from the group consisting of the new virtual object and an object from at least one of the existing virtual objects, thereby adjusting the dimensions of the matrix to form a modified matrix. All the existing virtual objects, including the new one, are properly positioned within the modified matrix.

  • Publication number: 20070168861
Abstract: In a computing environment, a display shows the progress of the execution of a user or system initiated task. The display includes the current completion status of the task, and the completion results of the task. The completion results indicate the amount of the task that has been completed and indicates the results of the completion. This displays differs from conventional task status displays in that this display gives information about the progress of the task execution and the activities that occurred during the task execution.

  • Publication number: 20060253849
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer instructions are provided for enhancing software catalog manageability, providing abstract software configuration, and desired state management. A first mechanism is provided for enhancing software catalog manageability. The first mechanism includes a software model that separates metadata of software from actual binaries of the software. A second mechanism is provided for abstracting software configuration for automation. The second mechanism includes a hierarchical software resource template structure that specifies parameters, dependencies between parameters, features, options, and parameters that cannot be predefined. The template is consumed by user defined workflows to create actual software resources during deployment. A third mechanism is provided for desired state management and patch compliance assessments.
