  • Patent number: 6828363
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of preparation for polymers, particularly binders for powder coatings and powder coatings which are prepared as a solution in a supercritical fluid phase. Binders for powder coatings are prepared from at least two ethylenically unsaturated monomers capable of free-radical or ionic copolymerization, and conventional initiators and regulators in supercritical fluids, whereby polymerization is carried out in the homogeneous phase, and, after the reaction has ended, either the composition or the phase parameters of the mixture are altered so that at least two phases with supercritical fluid are obtained, and the phase containing predominantly polymer is separated and the polymer is separated as a powder from the sc fluid by depressurization or the polymer phase is further processed under supercritical phase conditions to the powder coating.

  • Publication number: 20030130416
Abstract: Process for the preparation of lacquer binders by the free-radical homo- or co-polymerisation of water-insoluble ethylenically unsaturated monomers, optionally together with water-soluble monomers, in which the homo- or co-polymerisation is carried out in an aqueous medium in the presence of conventional polymerisation initiators to a number-average molecular weight of from 1000 to 1,000,000, wherein either the polymerisation is carried out in the presence of cyclodextrin or cyclodextrin derivatives, and/or at least the water-insoluble monomers are used in the form of complexes with cyclodextrin and/or cyclodextrin derivatives.

  • Patent number: 6518395
Abstract: Process for preparation powder coating formulations by pressure release of a composition comprising a low molecular mass inert compound, with release of the low molecular mass inert compound, in which process one or more base resins and one or more hardeners for the base resins, or one or more self-curing base resins, and, if desired, further customary coatings components, are converted together or separately into a flowable form by heating, the low molecular mass inert compound is dissolved under pressure at least in one of the base resin or hardener components employed, either before these components are combined with the other components or in the already prepared mixture, the overall mixture is homogenized, and then the mixture of all components is released from pressure, with cooling.

  • Patent number: 5981696
Abstract: The invention concerns a process for preparing coating powder compositions in which one or a plurality of base resins and one or a plurality of hardeners, each of which is in solid form, is dissolved with a low-molecular compound above its critical pressure and critical temperature. This low-molecular compound is inert with respect to the base resins and hardeners and is in gaseous form under normal operating conditions with respect to pressure and temperature. The pressure of the resultant solution is then reduced, for example, by spraying. The resultant coating powder composition can be sprayed directly onto a substrate to be coated. Coating powders can also be recycled according to the process of the invention.

  • Patent number: 5932282
Abstract: A process for producing a repair coating This invention relates to a process for producing a multi-layer repair coating by the application of a transparent clear lacquer coat, which is unpigmented or which contains colourless pigment, to a predried or hardened colour- and/or effect-imparting base pigment coat, or by the application of a pigmented covering lacquer coat to an optionally precoated substrate. Binder vehicles which are hardenable exclusively by radical polymerisation are used for the production of the transparent clear lacquer coat or of the pigmented covering lacquer coat, and hardening is effected by means of pulsed, high-energy UV radiation.
