Patent number: 5732368Abstract: A method for displaying information on a screen of a display device in a motor vehicle is described. Information to be displayed and/or its forms of representation are selected from a range of options displayed on the screen by the actuation of command keys. An evaluation is made thereby of the speed of operation of the command keys and/or the frequency distribution of the user's selection of the information and of the forms of representation. The evaluation is then used to change the range of options represented and/or the information displayed and/or the forms of representation of the information displayed.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1995Date of Patent: March 24, 1998Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Peter Knoll, Winfried Koenig, Christa Heiland-Franzen

Patent number: 5531118Abstract: A method and a device for operating an ultrasonic sensor, in which the measuring sensitivity is monitored and the measuring result is compensated for temperature. This is accomplished by measuring the distance of a fixed marking, which is situated on the vehicle and has a known distance from the ultrasonic sensor, to extract a signal, whose amplitude is a measure of the sensitivity of the ultrasonic sensor. From the measured delay time and the theoretical delay time to the marking, a value is attained, which is a measure of the temperature of the ambient air. Suited as a marking is, for example, an edge of a raised license plate frame, which is mounted on a bumper bar of a motor vehicle and lies within the detecting range of the ultrasonic sensor.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1994Date of Patent: July 2, 1996Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Peter Knoll, Martin Noll

Patent number: 5446332Abstract: Several exemplary embodiments for an ultrasound transducer are suggested, in which the sound propagation in the vertical plane is narrow-angled and in the horizontal plane wide-angled by means of appropriate damping measures. The effect on the propagation characteristic is achieved by means of the embodiment in accordance with the invention of the oscillating diaphragm and/or the housing, as well as multiple disposition of piezo oscillators. Because of these measures, damping of the sound waves or the sensitivity of the sensor is approximately the same over the entire horizontal angle up to almost 180.degree..Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1992Date of Patent: August 29, 1995Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Peter Rapps, Peter Knoll, Franz Pachner, Martin Noll, Michael Fischer

Patent number: 5422812Abstract: A positioning and navigation system for land vehicles features a simple and memory-conserving route entry method. Routes on maps can be specified by the junctions traversed by the route, so that entering only the junctions in memory uses much less space than prior art digital route storage systems which stored the coordinates of each point along the route. A trip progress information display shows the route vividly by using color or brightness contrast with the rest of the map. Additional direction of travel indications can be given, for example on a Head Up Display reflected off the inside of the windshield within the operator's field of view or by acoustic signals or speech-synthesized announcements. This results in particularly easy-to-follow guide to the driver or operator. Head-up displays on motor vehicles often have double images and interfering reflections on the windshield.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1991Date of Patent: June 6, 1995Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Peter Knoll, Winfried Koenig, Reinhard Helldoerfer, Ulrich Kanzler, Juergen Leinberger, Wilfried Urbanski, Ruediger Mock-Hecker, Edmund Zaeuner

Patent number: 4541693Abstract: The disturbing residual transmission of a liquid crystal display device which is particularly noticeable in negative contrast devices is reduced by reference to the fact that the residual transmission is colored. The entire display surface of the liquid crystal device is provided with a transparent covering of a color complementary to the residual transmission color when the liquid crystal is not turned on. The transparent colored covering can be applied by printing as well as otherwise. In another embodiment, color shifts between turned-on and not turned-on displays are counteracted by mixing into the liquid crystal material a dichroic coloring material which has much lower absorption when the display is turned on. A light blue dichroic coloring material is suitable for LCDs which have residual transmission in the red region.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1983Date of Patent: September 17, 1985Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Peter Knoll, Peter Rapps, Wolfgang Ziegler
